The GNZ-004/BW Gaga Cannon (aka Gaga Cannon) is a variant of the GNZ-004 Gaga introduced in Mobile Suit Gundam 00 The Movie: A wakening of the Trailblazer.
Technology & Combat Characteristics[]
After the Innovades who falsely claimed to be Innovators were defeated in AD 2312, the Earth Sphere Federation Forces (ESF Forces) seized control of the colony-class deep space mothership Celestial Being and found over a hundred leftover GNZ-004 Gagas in a factory within the ship.[1][2][3][4] In AD 2314, these Gagas were modified into the GNZ-004/BW Gaga Cannons by the ESF Forces for the final battle against the alien species "Extraterrestial Living-metal Shape-shifter" (ELS), and they were piloted by Innovades managed by Veda.[1][2][3][5] The Gaga Cannon was designed as a combat mobile suit rather than a suicide weapon like the Gaga[1][2][5][6], and this was because the ELS's ability to assimilate objects upon contact rendered the Gagas' suicide charge attack pointless.[1][3][6][7] A pair of GN Cannons were therefore added to the back of the Gaga Cannon as its primary attack method.[1][2][5][8]
In addition, nanomachines on the surface of the Gaga Cannon were reprogrammed, resulting in the mobile suit adopting the ESF Forces' blue color scheme instead of the Gaga's purple color scheme.[1][2][5][8] In a battlefield saturated with GN Particles, being able to visually identify allied units from enemy units is crucial.[1] If the Gaga Cannon retained the Gaga's color scheme, mobile suit pilots of the ESF Forces who previously fought against the Innovades in AD2312 might mistook it as an enemy unit.[1][7] Although the ELS assimilated and created mimics of the Gaga Cannon during the battle, these machines were in a metallic color, and thus can be easily differentiated from the ESF Forces' Gaga Cannons.[1] Due to the chaotic nature of the battlefield, the effectiveness of the Gaga Cannons remained unclear, but it is known that they saved a number of mobile suit pilots from the ELS' attacks.[1]
Armaments[]
- GN Cannon
- Mounted on the back of the GNZ-004/BW Gaga Cannon, the pair of GN Cannons can swivel up and down, and they are created by modifying the rear end of the GN Beam Rifle used by the GNX-609T GN-XIII.[1][5][6][8] The Gaga Cannon is equipped with these beam cannons as the original GNZ-004 Gaga's primary attack method, a suicide charge using the Trans-Am System, is useless against the ELS, which can assimilate objects upon contact.[1][2][3]
- GN Vulcan
- The Gaga Cannon retained the pair of GN Vulcans mounted in the chest of the original Gaga.[2][8][9][10] These rapid-fire beam guns are used for restricting the movements of enemy units, and to assist in the assault of enemy ships and bases.[9][10]
Special Equipment & Features[]
- When activated, this system releases at once all the compressed high-density GN Particles accumulated in a machine, enhancing its thrust and defensive capabilities as well as allowing it to perform at three times its normal output for a limited time.[11][12][13] The entire machine will also glow red and afterimages are generated during movements.[3][7][13] The Trans-Am System was initially usable only by the original GN Drive-equipped Gundams, but in AD 2312, Trans-Am System usable by GN Drive Tau-equipped mobile suits, like the GNZ-004 Gaga, was successfully developed.[14][15][16][17] However, the GN Drive Tau becomes inoperable following the use of Trans-Am.[15][16] The Gaga used the Trans-Am System to launch a high-speed suicide charge at its target, but this tactic was not used by the GNZ-004/BW Gaga Cannon as its enemy, the alien species "Extraterrestial Living-metal Shape-shifter", can assimilate objects upon contact.[1][2][6][7] Despite this, the Gaga Cannon likely retained the Trans-Am System as none of the information available suggested that removal of this system is part of the process to convert a Gaga into a Gaga Cannon.
- The operating system of the GNZ series mobile suits, including the Gaga, is linked to Veda.[9][18][19] This operating system can enhance mobile suit's performance and make piloting easier. [18][20] It is likely the Gaga Cannon retained this system.
History[]
Over 100 GNZ-004/BW Gaga Cannons were deployed alongside other mobile suits by the Earth Sphere Federation Forces during the final battle against the alien species "Extraterrestial Living-metal Shape-shifter" (ELS).[1][2][3] Unfortunately, less than 10% of the Gaga Cannons survived the battle.[1][2] Some of the surviving GNX-803T GN-XIV's pilots reported that assistance from the Gaga Cannons saved them from them being shot down by the ELS.[1]
