The [[GNMA-XCVII Alvatore|Alvatore]] was defeated after an intense battle, however the fight was not over – the Alvaaron stored on the top of the mobile armor was untouched. From the wreckage of the mobile armor, the Alvaaron fired one of its GN Beam Rifles and caught [[GN-001 Gundam Exia|Gundam Exia]]'s attention. The Alvaaron then revealed itself to Exia, discarded the GN Beam Rifle in its right hand in favor of the GN Beam Saber, and charged towards the Gundam. After a brief clash of blades, the Alvaaron kicked the Exia away. It then dodged a few beam shots from the Gundam before deploying its GN Field to block further attacks. The Alvaaron subsequently counterattacked with multiple shots from its remaining GN Beam Rifle and when the Exia evaded them, Alvaaron fired its Beam Cannon at the Gundam to finish it off.

Unexpectedly, Exia dodged the powerful shot using [[Trans-Am System|Trans-Am]] and Alvaaron was forced to deploy its GN Field to protect itself from the Gundam's surprise attack. The two exchanged a number of beam shots, with Alvaaron using a mix of evasive maneuvers and its GN Field to avoid a direct hit. The GN Field was eventually penetrated when Exia switched to the GN Short Blade, allowing the Gundam to stab Alvaaron in its left arm. The Alvaaron tried to retaliate with its GN Beam Saber, but before it could bring the weapon down, Exia sliced into its right arm and wing with the GN Long Blade. This attack also shut down Alvaaron's GN Field, and the mobile suit was further stabbed in its chests and arms by the Exia's GN Beam Sabers and GN Beam Daggers respectively. The Alvaaron then received the fatal blow, a slash across its torso by the Exia's GN Sword, cutting into its cockpit. The mobile suit then blew up a few seconds later.

The GNMS-XCVII Alvaaron (aka Alvaaron) is a mobile suit introduced in season 1 of Mobile Suit Gundam 00 and is piloted by Alejandro Corner.

Technology & Combat Characteristics

A GN Drive Tau-equipped mobile suit stored at the top of the huge mobile armor Alvatore, the Alvaaron is actually the main body, with the mobile armor being merely its enhancement parts.[1][2][3][4] The Alvaaron is in a seated position when stored on the Alvatore, with its four limbs pointing forward and a GN Beam Rifle held in each hand.[4][5][6][7] In this state, the Alvaaron's lower body is surrounded by the Alvatore's parts, while its upper body is mostly covered by its back-mounted wings, except for its head and part of its GN Beam Rifles' barrels, integrating the mobile suit with the rest of the mobile armor. [1][4][5][6] As the Alvaaron is not completely stored within the Alvatore, it can immediately separate from the mobile armor in an emergency to operate as an independent unit.[1][4][5][6]

The Alvaaron was developed according to the instructions of its pilot, Alejandro Corner, and was based off the data of the 1 Gundam.[4][8][9] It was also thought to have incorporated feedback from the Gundam Thrones' and the GN-X's data, but aside from having the same GN Drive Tau, the Alvaaron's design had little in common with these machines.[3][4] In fact, the Alvaaron's basic silhouette and the layout of its joint structures seem to be closer to that of the Gundams equipped with the original GN Drives than the other GN Drive Tau-equipped mobile suits.[5] Additionally, it has a unique head featuring a goggles-type sensor not found in other factions' mobile suits of that time.[5] In combat, the Alvaaron serves as a short-to-medium range unit with excellent mobility.[6] Although it has fewer and simpler weaponry then the Alvatore, they are sufficient for battling the Gundams.[1][6][7] Furthermore, the mobile suit's mobility and maneuverability are superior than the mobile armor's, and Alejandro utilized these characteristics during the battle with Gundam Exia.[6]

Besides a pair of GN Beam Rifles that double as Beam Cannons for the Alvatore, the Alvaaron is armed with a GN Beam Saber and its wings can be used as a huge Beam Cannon.[1][2][4][6] The multi-functional wings also contributed to the mobile suit's mobility and have defensive functions, serving as armor plating and seem to be involved in the generation of a powerful GN Field barrier.[1][4][6][7] With its mighty Beam Cannon and GN Field, the Alvaaron is said to possess top-class offensive and defensive performance in AD 2308.[10] The Alvaaron shares the same gold color scheme as the Alvatore, which is due to a special coating that is capable of diffusing certain beam shots, and the mobile suit's GN Drive Tau emits the same gold-colored GN Particles as the mobile armor's, though this color is believed to have no special effect and is merely for cosmetic purposes.[6][11][12][13]

The Alvaaron's cockpit also serves as the Alvatore's cockpit and it has two sets of controllers, one for each machine.[1][4][6][14] The Alvatore's controllers are on the sides of a central independent console located in front of the pilot seat, while the Alvaaron's controllers are on the sides of the seat.[1][4][5][6] The Alvaaron's controllers are only expose when the mobile suit is operating on its own, and when this happens, the Alvatore's controllers slide forward and away from the pilot to avoid any interference.[1][4][6][10] Additionally, the Alvaaron has a Combat Support AI for simple combat activities such as long-range shooting.[11] Furthermore, it is possible for Veda and Ribbons Almark to provide piloting support to Alejandro, but this function was unused during the battle with Exia due to Ribbons' treachery.[11] In AD 2312, the Alvaaron's data is utilized in the upgrading of the 1 Gundam into the binders-equipped 1.5 Gundam.[15]

Armaments

  • GN Beam Rifle
A pair of powerful, handheld, beam firearms that serve as Alvaaron's primary armament.[1][4][6][16] The GN Beam Rifles excel in medium-range shooting, and their long barrel is suggested to be because they double as Beam Cannons for Alvatore as well as due to an emphasis on shooting accuracy.[4][6] When serving as Alvatore's Beam Cannons, the rifles continued to be held and operated by the Alvaaron.[6]
  • GN Beam Saber
A dedicated, handheld, melee beam weapon stored on a mount latch located on the rear skirt armor.[1][4][5][6] The lower part of the mount latch slides down to facilitate the drawing out of the GN Beam Saber.[4][5][6][10] The GN Beam Saber can generate a beam blade using GN Particles from both ends, turning into a double-edged beam saber, or split in the center and be used as two individual beam sabers.[1][4][6][16]
  • Beam Cannon
The wings mounted on the Alvaaron's back can rotate 90 degrees forward and function as a huge Beam Cannon.[1][3][4][6] In this state, the wings concentrate the energy sourced directly from the mobile suit's GN Drive Tau between their inner surfaces, and then fires this energy as a large, high-output beam capable of hitting enemies at extreme long range.[1][3][5][6] The design data of this Beam Cannon is later utilized to create a similar weapon for the 1.5 Gundam.[17]

Special Equipment & Features

Like the Alvatore, the Alvaaron can deploy a spherical GN Field barrier around itself for defensive purposes.[1][4][5][6] Made of GN Particles, this barrier grants the Alvaaron top-class defensive capabilities against most projectile and beam attacks despite having no physical shield.[1][6][10][18] However, the GN Field is not invulnerable, as seen when the Gundam Exia penetrated the barrier with its GN Short Blade and GN Long Blade, which are physical swords with GN Particles-enveloped blades.[1][19][20] Interestingly, the Alvaaron's wings frequently (but not always) move in tandem with the deployment of the GN Field.[1] When the GN Field is deployed against frontal attacks, both wings are often seen to swivel in front of the mobile suit; when the GN Field is used to block attacks from the sides, the wing on the respective side moves accordingly.[1] The reason for this is currently unclear. The wings may possibly play a role in the generation of the GN Field, as the barrier is observed to shut down when Exia damaged the right wing.[1]
  • Anti-Beam Coating
As with the Alvatore, the Alvaaron is covered in a special gold-colored coating capable of diffusing particle beams.[11] However, this coating is only effective against beams up till a certain power level and can be overpowered by more powerful beams.[1][21] This is shown when the coating on the Alvatore diffused a beam shot from the Assault Container's GN Beam Gun, but failed against that of the GN Armor Type-E's Large-Sized GN Cannons.[1][21] With its limited practical effect, the coating is deemed to be not worth its gold color that stands out on the battlefield, and is not used by other mobile weapons outside of the Alvatore and Alvaaron.[11] Some people feel that the coating's color is due to Alejandro's personal preference, as he had a record of favoring gold-colored belonging and ornament.[11] However, others find this explanation to be too hasty.[11] These people hold the opinion that since Alejandro's goal was to cause the collapse of Celestial Being by defeating the Gundams, and through this great achievement be viewed as a hero by the world, the gold color might have been a post-victory political strategy, meant to further fortify his heroic image.[11]
  • Combat Support AI
The Alvaaron is equipped with an AI system that handles simple combat activities such as long-range shooting and one-to-one battle.[11] It was designed based on the assumption that the final battle with the Celestial Being would be a simplistic situation as machines with overwhelming firepower has the capability to simplify combat.[11] Because of this, the AI is not effective in ordinary battles with complex situations, thus it is not adopted by later machines.[11] Since the Alvaaron and the Alvatore share the same cockpit, it is possible that the AI is in operation when Alejandro is piloting the mobile armor. In addition, there is a function whereby Veda and Ribbons Almark can provide piloting support, and this probably allowed Alejandro to launch for combat with peace of mind.[11] However, this function was not used due to Ribbons' betrayal.[11]

History

Battle with Gundam Exia[1]

The Alvatore was defeated after an intense battle, however the fight was not over – the Alvaaron stored on the top of the mobile armor was untouched. From the wreckage of the mobile armor, the Alvaaron fired one of its GN Beam Rifles and caught Gundam Exia's attention. The Alvaaron then revealed itself to Exia, discarded the GN Beam Rifle in its right hand in favor of the GN Beam Saber, and charged towards the Gundam. After a brief clash of blades, the Alvaaron kicked the Exia away. It then dodged a few beam shots from the Gundam before deploying its GN Field to block further attacks. The Alvaaron subsequently counterattacked with multiple shots from its remaining GN Beam Rifle and when the Exia evaded them, Alvaaron fired its Beam Cannon at the Gundam to finish it off.

Unexpectedly, Exia dodged the powerful shot using Trans-Am and Alvaaron was forced to deploy its GN Field to protect itself from the Gundam's surprise attack. The two exchanged a number of beam shots, with Alvaaron using a mix of evasive maneuvers and its GN Field to avoid a direct hit. The GN Field was eventually penetrated when Exia switched to the GN Short Blade, allowing the Gundam to stab Alvaaron in its left arm. The Alvaaron tried to retaliate with its GN Beam Saber, but before it could bring the weapon down, Exia sliced into its right arm and wing with the GN Long Blade. This attack also shut down Alvaaron's GN Field, and the mobile suit was further stabbed in its chests and arms by the Exia's GN Beam Sabers and GN Beam Daggers respectively. The Alvaaron then received the fatal blow, a slash across its torso by the Exia's GN Sword, cutting into its cockpit. The mobile suit then blew up a few seconds later.
