The GNMA-Y0002V Gadelaza (aka Gadelaza) is a mobile armor introduced in Mobile Suit Gundam 00 The Movie -A wakening of the Trailblazer- and is piloted by Descartes Shaman.

Technology & Combat Characteristics[]

The GNMA-Y0002V Gadelaza is a large mobile armor developed by the Earth Sphere Federation Forces (ESF Forces) to harness the capabilities of a true Innovator in combat.[1][2][3][4] It was built while the ESF Forces was researching on their sole confirmed Innovator at the time, Captain Descartes Shaman, and this also effectively made the Gadelaza his personal machine.[1][5][6][7] As the ESF Forces' first Innovator-use machine, the Gadelaza was installed with a variety of experimental equipment, and served as a test case for incorporating the many Innovators that were predicted to appear in the future as a fighting force for the military.[1][3][5][6] As a result, it became a massive machine about the size of a warship, with appearance, equipment, and performance that deviated significantly from those of existing mobile weapons.[1][2][5][8] In fact, its combat capabilities were noted to be comparable to that of five mobile suit platoons, but depending on the skills of its pilot, even greater combat result is possible.[3][4][7][9] The Gadelaza was also selected as a candidate for the ESF Forces' next generation mainstay machine, and it was hoped that the Innovators' capabilities would enable the military to maintain, or even enhance, its fighting capabilities amidst the government's disarmament policy.[4][9][10] At the same time, it had been suggested that through the Gadelaza, the ESF Forces was preparing for a future where the Innovators would become more common.[3]

The Gadelaza was created by combining the technologies of the ESF Forces, such as those from the cancelled Ahead series, with technologies from the machines developed by the Innovades who falsely claimed to be Innovators, including the GNMA-0001V Regnant and the "Ga Series" mobile suits like the GNZ-003 Gadessa.[3][4][7][11] It thus has a model number that follows the Innovade's mobile armor series, and also inherited the "Ga Series" naming.[7][8][12] As an Innovator-use machine, the Gadelaza is equipped with a quantum brainwave control system that utilizes the Innovator's quantum brainwaves and incorporated technologies from the Innovades.[3][4][6][9] This control system is used for controlling the body movements of the Gadelaza and to operate its weapon systems, notably its most fearsome weapon – the remote-controlled GN Fangs.[2][4][10][13] The Gadelaza is armed with 154 GN Fangs, allowing it to engage a large group of enemies by itself.[3][4][7][9] However, operating this many remote-controlled weapons at once is beyond a normal human, and requires the use of an Innovator's quantum brainwaves.[3][4][6][13] The Gadelaza's GN Fangs consisted of 14 Large GN Fangs, and 140 Small GN Fangs stored within the Large GN Fangs.[3][4][6][13] Both types of GN Fangs can fire beams to destroy enemy units, or deploy beams around their bodies to deal damages in close combat.[3][4][6][9] Additionally, they have longer operating range than most remote-controlled weapons.[13]

Other weapons of the Gadelaza are a large beam cannon called GN Blaster, four GN Beam Guns that doubled as GN Beam Sabers, and 256 GN Missiles.[3][4][6][9] The GN Blaster is mounted in the nose unit of the mobile armor and can easily destroy an enemy ship in one shot, but it has to be cooled down after firing.[3][4][6][9] The GN Beam Guns/GN Beam Sabers are mounted on four arms hidden in the wings of the mobile armor, and can attack enemies in a large area thanks to the arms' articulated structure and wide movement range.[3][4][6][9] The 256 GN Missiles are launched from 32 missile carriers, which are stored in two containers mounted underneath the wings.[3][4][6][9] These missiles can create a massive missile barrage to destroy multiple enemy units simultaneously.[4][9] The Gadelaza also has a simple transformation mechanism to switch between "Cruise Mode" and "Combat Mode".[4][6][7][9] The Cruise Mode is the basic, traveling form of the Gadelaza, and upon entering the battlefield, the mobile armor will transform into Combat Mode, a form where all weapons are usable.[3][4][6][9] In Combat Mode, the nose unit is lowered so that the retracted chest can slide out and expose the head unit, the wings also extend outward, and the hidden arms can be deployed when required.[4][6][9][14] The head unit is equipped with two antennas and multiple sensors, including a pair of triple camera eyes.[3][4][6][9] Deployment of the head unit in Combat Mode enhances the mobile armor's search capabilities and enables more precise information processing.[4][6][7]

The two cone-cylinder structures at the back of the Gadelaza not only serve as propulsive devices, they are also each integrated with a new series-type GN Drive that comprises three GN Drive Taus connected in a series.[3][6][7][8] A unique feature of this series-type GN Drive is that the three connected GN Drive Taus are in a compressed state when deactivated, and will extend upon activation.[3][6][7][14] Besides the pair of series-type GN Drives, the Gadelaza also has a spare GN Drive Tau in its main body, for a total of seven GN Drive Taus.[3][6][7][8] The massive GN Particles output generated by these GN Drive Taus ensured the Gadelaza has sufficient particles for its powerful weaponry, and to generate the high thrust for maintaining its mobility.[3][4][10] Like the other GN Drive Tau-equipped machines developed after the conflict in AD 2312, the Gadelaza is equipped with the Trans-Am System, which can boost its output by three-fold for a limited period of time.[3][15][16] The basic configuration of the Gadelaza's cockpit is similar to that of the GN-X series, but it is installed with the aforementioned quantum brainwave control system and an Innovator-use operating system.[3][4][6][9] Due to its large size, the Gadelaza has to be towed by a warship, like the Nile-class, for long-distance travel and during resupply.[4][7][9] To achieve this, a dedicated fixation device that attaches to the top of the Gadelaza is mounted on the bottom of the warship.[3][9]

With its focus on combat capabilities, the Gadelaza's design concept is the polar opposite of Celestial Being's GNT-0000 00 Qan[T], an Innovator-use mobile suit made for dialogue.[3][6][14][17] During the conflict with the alien species "Extraterrestial Living-metal Shape-shifter" (ELS), the pilot suit worn by Descartes was equipped to block external quantum brainwaves to reduce the pain and interference caused by the aliens' own quantum brainwaves.[3][4][9][12] However, this blocking of quantum brainwaves combined with Descartes' hostility towards the ELS contributed to his failure to communicate with the aliens, leading to his defeat.[3][9][12] Several years later, a new conflict erupted when those who viewed Innovators as abominations took up arms, and a number of Gadelazas were deployed by the anti-Innovator Old Human Faction.[2][18] This ironic situation arose as the Old Human Faction was attracted to the mobile armor's impressive combat capabilities, and the group was even known to deploy two Gadelazas together for a single battle.[2][18] In contrast, most Innovators prefer not to use the mobile armor.[2] Since Gadelaza was developed for Innovators, the Old Human Faction utilized enslaved Innovators and pseudo-Innovators created using Super Soldier technology as the machine's pilots.[2][18] Like Descartes, these pilots wore helmets that could block quantum brainwaves to reduce interference from enemy Innovator pilots.[2]

Armaments[]

  • GN Blaster
A large beam cannon installed in the nose of the GNMA-Y0002V Gadelaza.[3][4][6][9] The GN Blaster boasts the highest firepower among the mobile armor's weapons, and can easily destroy an enemy warship in one shot.[3][4][6][9] The nose of the mobile armor splits open when firing the GN Blaster, and after firing, four panels on the top and bottom of the nose open to vent gas for cooling down the weapon.[3][4][6][9] As a result, the GN Blaster is incapable of rapid-fire.[3][4] However, the high output of the Gadelaza enabled the GN Blaster to be fired relatively quickly after cooling down.[6][9]
  • Large GN Fang
The Gadelaza is equipped with 14 Large GN Fangs, which are remote-controlled weapons roughly the size of a mobile suit, and they are stored in two GN Fang Containers on the bottom of the mobile armor.[3][4][6][7] Each container has an integrated launch catapult at the front, with a Large GN Fang stored on the catapult and the other 6 stored on a rotating mount within the container's body.[3][4][6][9] As the GN Fang Containers themselves can rotate, the launch angle of the GN Fangs can be adjusted to a certain extent.[3][14] The Large GN Fang has two different modes: GN Blaster and GN Cutter.[3][4] In GN Blaster mode, the Large GN Fang fires beams from a beam emitter in the tip to destroy distant enemies.[3][4][6][9] In GN Cutter mode, the emitted beams are deployed around the Large GN Fang instead, forming a wide arrowhead-like energy field to cut enemies in close combat.[3][4][6][9] The Large GN Fang also has two special features: it is the only known remote-controlled weapon to be powered by its own GN Drive Tau, and it also functions as a fang carrier, carrying 10 Small GN Fangs in its body that are launched from sides hatches at the bottom.[3][4][9][13] Due to these features, the Large GN Fang is comparable in functions and capabilities to a mobile suit, and controlling all 14 of them at once is akin to piloting multiple mobile suits simultaneously.[2][13] As such, they cannot be operated by normal humans, and only an Innovator can control them properly using their quantum brainwaves.[13]
The use of an Innovator's quantum brainwaves to control the Large GN Fangs also has a positive effect on their operating range.[13] Generally, remote-controlled weapons are harder to control the further they move away from the user, but the Innovator's quantum brainwaves allow for stable control even at a great distance, and this contributed to the Large GN Fangs having one of the longest operating range among all offensive-type remote-controlled weapons.[13] Thanks to the built-in GN Drive Tau, which has the same output as those installed in mobile suits, the Large GN Fangs have the highest supply of GN Particles compared to other remote-controlled weapons deployed till then, and a long operating time.[3][8][13] They were also assessed as having the highest attack power, and the second-best overall performance among all remote-controlled weapons at the time, surpassed only by the GNT-0000 00 Qan[T]'s GN Sword Bits.[13] The excellent performance of the Large GN Fangs and the GN Sword Bits were attributed to them being newly developed and so are technological advanced, as well as being exclusive to Innovators.[13] However, remote-controlled weapons exclusive to Innovators have the worst ratings in terms of ease of control, and this is due to their complicated controls that required the use of quantum brainwaves.[13]
  • Small GN Fang
The Gadelaza is equipped with 140 Small GN Fangs in total, 10 stored in each Large GN Fang.[3][4][9][13] Like the Large GN Fang, this remote-controlled weapon has two different modes: GN Blaster and GN Spear.[3][4] In GN Blaster mode, the Small GN Fang fires beams from its tip to destroy distant enemies.[3][4][9] In GN Spear mode, the emitted beams are deployed around the Small GN Fang instead, forming a wedge-shaped energy field for piercing enemies in close combat.[3][4][6][9] As with the Large GN Fangs, the Small GN Fangs have one of the longest operating range among all offensive-type remote-controlled weapons.[13] This is partly due to the Small GN Fangs being controlled via an Innovator's quantum brainwaves, and also because they are deployed from the Large GN Fangs, which enabled them to operate further than what they are originally capable of under their own power.[13]
  • GN Missile
256 GN Missiles are loaded in 32 missile carriers (8 GN Missiles per carrier) that are housed in the lower halves of the two containers mounted underneath the Gadelaza's left and right wings.[3][4][6][9] Besides the GN Missiles, the missile carriers are also equipped with sensors at the front and thrusters at the rear.[6] When used, the lower halves of the containers open to launch the missile carriers, which then fly a certain distance before splitting open to fire the GN Missiles.[3][4][6][9] Although the GN Missiles are small in size, they can be fired simultaneously to create a massive missile barrage for taking out a large number of targets.[4][9]
  • GN Beam Gun (GN Beam Saber)
Four hidden arms are mounted in the Gadelaza's wings, and each arm is armed with a GN Beam Gun.[3][4][6][9] Each wing has two hidden arms, one on the top surface that pop ups when in use, and another that extend from the top half of the container mounted underneath the wing.[3][6][9][14] The top arm is shorter, with a GN Beam Gun located in its tip, while the bottom arm is longer and has a three-fingered manipulator, with a GN Beam Gun located in the center of the manipulator.[3][4][6][9] All four GN Beam Guns are capable of rapid-fire, and can also generate a GN Beam Saber each.[3][4][6][9] As the hidden arms are articulated and have a wide movement range, the GN Beam Guns (GN Beam Sabers) are capable of attacking enemy units in a large area and from various angles.[4][6][7][9]

Special Equipment & Features[]

As a mobile armor developed exclusively for an Innovator, the GNMA-Y0002V Gadelaza not only has an Innovator-use operating system, it also incorporated a quantum brainwave control system which utilized the quantum brainwaves of an Innovator.[3][4][6][9] This control system incorporated technologies from the Innovades who falsely claimed to be Innovators, and is used for controlling the body movements of the mobile armor and to operate its weapon systems.[3][4][10] Notably, the quantum brainwave control system is essential for operating the remote-controlled GN Fangs.[3][4][13] This is because controlling all of the Gadelaza's 154 GN Fangs at once is too much for a normal human to handle, and can only be accomplished through an Innovator's quantum brainwaves.[3][4][6][13] At the same time, the special features of the Large GN Fangs made controlling all 14 of them akin to piloting multiple mobile suits simultaneously, and once again, this difficult feat requires the use of an Innovator's quantum brainwaves.[13] The Innovator's quantum brainwaves also enable stable control of remote-controlled weaponry even at great distance, and this contributed to the Gadelaza's Large and Small GN Fangs having longer operating range than most remote-controlled weapons.[13]
When activated, this system releases at once all the compressed high-density GN Particles accumulated in a machine, enhancing its thrust and defensive capabilities as well as allowing it to perform at three times its normal output for a limited time.[19][20][21] The entire machine will also glow red and afterimages are generated during movements.[9][19][21] The Trans-Am System was initially usable only by the original GN Drive-equipped Gundams, but in AD 2312, Trans-Am System usable by GN Drive Tau-equipped machines was successful developed.[16][22][23][24] However, such a Trans-Am System has a drawback in which the GN Drive Tau becomes inoperable after using Trans-Am, and until it is replaced, the machine operates using the particles remaining in its GN Condensers.[16][23][24] Starting with the GNX-803T GN-XIV, the Trans-Am System became a standard feature of new GN Drive Tau-equipped machines developed by the ESF Forces, so the Gadelaza has this system as well.[3][7] It is unclear whether the issue of GN Drive Tau being inoperable after Trans-Am had been resolved by AD 2314.
Following the defeat of the Innovades in AD 2312, the ESF Forces seized control of the colony-class deep space mothership Celestial Being as well as the quantum processing system Veda located within the ship.[3][9][25][26] As seen with some of the Gundams operated by the paramilitary organization Celestial Being and the mobile weapons of the Innovades, Veda can be linked to the operating system of these machines, resulting in enhanced performance and making piloting easier.[27][28][29] The ESF Forces did likewise, installing a Veda-linked operating system in the GN-XIV[3][26], thus it is likely the operating system of the Gadelaza is linked to Veda as well.

  • ELS Gadelaza
Featured in the photo novel Mobile Suit Gundam 00N and in the manga Mobile Suit Gundam 00I 2314, it is unknown if the ELS Gadelaza is the original GNMA-Y0002V Gadelaza that was assimilated by the alien species "Extraterrestial Living-metal Shape-shifter" (ELS), or a replica created by the ELS based on the information they obtained following the assimilation of the original Gadelaza.[4][10][12][18] The ELS Gadelaza appeared at the final battle between the ELS horde and the ESF Forces, and it has the original Gadelaza's overwhelming combat capabilities, including the Large and Small GN Fangs, as well as the transformation mechanism.[4][10][12][18] However, it is not an identical copy of the mobile armor, and has several differences including slightly altered shape, and a different color scheme.[4][12]

Notes & Trivia[]

  • The Large and Small GN Fangs seem to be loosely based on the AMX-015 Geymalk's Mother and Child Funnels.
  • It is the only Mobile Armor in Gundam 00 thus far to not have engaged in combat with any Gundam or protagonist on screen.
  • In the second trailer for the movie, the Gadelaza was seen with a purple interface while in the actual movie its interface is green and in the shape of the Gadelaza.
  • Based on Mobile Suit Gundam 00 Mechanics Final book, the initial concept art for Gadelaza featured a more animalistic style, such as having a tail at the rear, a jet-like cruiser mode and a more humanoid shape for its transformation.
  • The Gadelaza makes a cameo appearance in Super Robot Wars Z3.2 where it is seen being assimilated by the ELS. This is currently the only time the Gadelaza appeared in the Super Robot Wars series.
