The GN-00902 SEM (aka SEM) is an unmanned mobile suit developed from GN-009 Seraphim Gundam introduced in Mobile Suit Gundam 00V.
Technology & Combat Characteristics[]
The GN-00902 SEM was an unmanned version of the GN-009 Seraphim Gundam.[1][2][3][4] Two SEMs were developed as part of the GN-008GNHW/3G Seravee Gundam GNHW/3G, one of the upgrade plans for the GN-008 Seravee Gundam for the final battle against the Innovators.[1][2][4][5] The two SEMs could transform into a compact form for docking to Seravee Gundam GNHW/3G's backpack, which was actually the Seraphim Gundam in its Backpack Form.[2][4][5][6] The main purpose of the SEMs was to operate with Seraphim Gundam and jointly deploy the Trial System, thereby increasing the system's range to several hundreds of kilometers to achieve wide area suppression of enemy machines linked to the quantum processing system Veda.[1][2][4][5]
When using the Trial System, the SEMs and Seraphim Gundam would detach from Seravee Gundam GNHW/3G and transform into their respective MS Forms.[4][7] The SEMs were remotely controlled from Seraphim Gundam via quantum communication, and the operating range of this remote-control system was theoretically infinite.[2][4][5][7] The two SEMs were nearly identical, except for the location of their clavicle antenna.[2][4][7] Docked to the left side of Seravee Gundam 3G's backpack, SEM Unit 1's clavicle antenna was located on its right chest, while SEM Unit 2 was docked to the right side of the backpack and its clavicle antenna was located on its left chest.[2][4][5][7] The mobile suit's name "SEM" was a shortened form of "Seraphim", and was also based on the name of one of the three sons of Noah in the Bible.[2][4][5][7]
The SEM's head was of the same series as the GNR-101A GN Archer's, but incorporated features with similar functions as those of the Seraphim Gundam's, such as a clear sensor mounted on the forehead.[2][4][7] The large Gundam face on Seraphim Gundam's chest was changed to a masked-type on the SEM.[2][4][6][7] This mask enabled the SEM to transmit long-range information speedily to Seraphim Gundam, and was developed from the Sensor Mask used by the Gundams operated by the support organization Fereshte, like the GNY-001F Gundam Astraea Type F.[2][4][7][8] The SEM retained the standard armaments of the Seraphim Gundam, which consisted of a pair of GN Cannons and two GN Beam Sabers, and it was also equipped with a GN Beam Machine Gun and a GN Shield.[2][4][5][7] Both GN Cannons and GN Beam Sabers seemed to remain functional when the SEMs were docked to the Seravee Gundam GNHW/3G.[2][5][7]
Unfortunately, the two SEMs were difficult to manufacture.[2][5][7] Additionally, with the pilot of both Seravee Gundam and Seraphim Gundam, Tieria Erde, yet to restore his link with Veda, which was necessary for activating the Trial System, the SEMs were nothing more than a burden to the Seravee Gundam GNHW/3G.[2][5][7][9] Furthermore, there were concerns that the SEMs might be shot down before Veda could be recaptured from the Innovators.[2][7] All these factors contributed to the decision to drop the Seravee Gundam GNHW/3G and its two SEMs, and instead adopt the alternative GN-008GNHW/B Seravee Gundam GNHW/B plan for the final battle with the Innovators.[1][2][4][5]
Armaments[]
- GN Beam Machine Gun
- Stored on the SEM's right knee when not in use, this small-sized firearm was originally developed for the GN-009 Seraphim Gundam.[2][7]
- GN Shield
- A modified version of the GN-006 Cherudim Gundam's GN Shield Bit, it featured an added handle.[2][4][5][7] The GN Shield retained the beam gun function of the GN Shield Bit, but the remote control function was omitted.[2][4][5][7] The GN Shield was stored on the left knee when not in use, and was handheld when the SEM entered combat in MS Form.[2][4][7]
- GN Cannon
- Like the Seraphim, both arms of the SEM could transform into large beam cannons, with the hands folding into the barrel.[2][5][6][7] The crystal part on the back of each hand then forms the cannon's muzzle and is where the weapon's particle beams are fired from.[6] The pair of GN Cannons seemed to remain functional even when the SEM was docked to the GN-008GNHW/3G Seravee Gundam GNHW/3G.[2][4][5][7]
- GN Beam Saber
- A high power melee combat weapon that emits a beam blade made of compressed GN Particles when drawn.[5][6] Like the Seraphim, the SEM was equipped with two GN Beam Sabers,[2][4][5][6] and presumably one was stored in each forearm. The pair of GN Beam Sabers seemed to be usable even when the SEM was docked to the Seravee Gundam GNHW/3G.[5]
Special Equipment & Features[]
- A system that generates an invisible field known as "Trial Field" around the equipped mobile suit, taking control and forcibly shut down all machines linked with the quantum processing system Veda within this field.[2][5][10][11] When the two SEMs and the GN-009 Seraphim Gundam jointly deploy their Trial System, the Trial Field's range expands to several hundreds of kilometers, effectively covering the entire battlefield.[1][2][7] However, the Trial System can only be activated by a user linked with Veda.[9][12] As Tieria Erde, the pilot of the Seraphim Gundam and the GN-008 Seravee Gundam, had not yet restored his link with Veda, he thus regarded the GN-008GNHW/3G Seravee Gundam GNHW/3G and its two SEMs as being unsuitable for the final battle against the Innovators.[2][7]

Notes & Trivia[]
- Currently, there is no official information or confirmation on the SEM's powerplant, but fans have speculated the mobile suit is powered by a Large GN Condenser like the GNR-101A GN Archer and the GN-000 0 Gundam (Type A.C.D.).
- The name, SEraphiM, is analogous to GundaM.
