The GN-008 Seravee Gundam (aka Seravee Gundam, Seravee) is the successor to GN-005 Gundam Virtue introduced in Mobile Suit Gundam 00 season two, and is piloted by Tieria Erde.
Technology & Combat Characteristics[]
The GN-008 Seravee Gundam was the first of the Celestial Being's new Gundams to be deployed for combat in AD 2312.[1][2][3][4] Made for Tieria Erde, Seravee is the successor to his previous mobile suit, the GN-005 Gundam Virtue.[1][2][4][5] Like Virtue, Seravee is an artillery warfare mobile suit designed for fleet battles and assaulting enemy strongholds, and its main armaments consisted of two GN Bazooka IIs and four GN Cannons.[1][2][6][7] With its heavy firepower, Seravee is also capable of annihilating a platoon of enemy mobile suits instantly.[1][2][4][6] Additionally, Seravee is armed with GN Beam Sabers for melee combat, and can generate a spherical GN Field barrier around itself for defense.[1][2][8][9] Overall performance of the mobile suit, including firepower, mobility, and GN Field performance, is improved when Seravee activates "Face Burst Mode"[2][10][11], its full power form where its backpack unfolds to expose a huge Gundam face and GN Particle emission is greatly increased.[2][5][12] The Seravee also has a couple of hidden abilities to surprise its opponent, and the Trans-Am System that triples its output for a limited time.[4][13][14][15]
Seravee normally controls its GN Particles through the four head-mounted antennas that were incorporated with the particle control function previously found on Virtue's torso-mounted clavicle antennas.[4][6][16][17] Seravee's particle control capability is boosted during Face Burst Mode as additional particle control antennas are deployed from the backpack.[2][4][16] At the center of Seravee's forehead is a red-colored part with sensor mechanisms,[18] but there are different explanations for what this part actually is; one source described it as a forehead sensor with a crystalline cover,[16] while another said it is a clear sensor that utilized technology similar to the crystal sensors installed on the new Gundams' handheld firearm.[4][19] Like Virtue, Seravee has large GN Condensers built into various parts of its body to meet the heavy particle consumption of its high-output ranged beam weaponry and GN Field.[2][4][15][20] Unlike Virtue, Seravee is not equipped with dedicated GN Field generators, but its side skirt armors have GN Particle generators as well as vents on the underside for emitting GN Particles.[2][18][21][22]
The basic fighting style of Seravee is long-range bombardment using the pair of handheld GN Bazooka IIs and the four GN Cannons mounted on its backpack and knees.[2][4][21][23] The GN Bazooka IIs and GN Cannons displayed excellent offensive power when used on their own, but they could also be used in combination for a variety of stronger attacks, enabling the mobile suit to handle various situations.[1][5][6][7] As noted by its pilot, Tieria, Seravee is not all about firepower, and it was shown to be capable of defeating enemy mobile suit with its GN Beam Sabers even though it was not intended for melee combat.[2][8][9][24] The Seravee is equipped with six GN Beam Sabers which are stored in its forearms and the four GN Cannons.[2][4][9][24] With the four GN Cannons able to transform into four additional arms that can operate together with the two primary arms, Seravee can wield all six GN Beam Sabers simultaneously to overwhelm enemy unit in melee combat.[2][4][9][16] The GN Cannons' hidden arms and their GN Beam Sabers are also used for surprise attacks, and they ensured Seravee did not suffer from poor melee combat capability like its predecessor.[4][6][13][23]
The most noteworthy feature of Seravee is that it concealed another mobile suit, the GN-009 Seraphim Gundam.[1][2][16][25] This brings to mind the Virtue hiding the GN-004 Gundam Nadleeh in its body, but unlike its predecessor, Seravee has a transformed Seraphim docked to its back as a backpack.[1][2][4][14] The detaching of Seravee's backpack and its subsequent transformation into Seraphim can catch the enemy off guard during battle, and both Seravee and Seraphim can operate together after separation.[2][4][14][25] When Seravee and Seraphim separates, the pilot seat lowers from the Seravee's chest-mounted cockpit to the abdomen, rotates 180 degrees, and moves to the cockpit in Seraphim's abdomen, completing the transfer of Tieria from Seravee to Seraphim.[2][4][12] The Seravee then turns into an unmanned attack unit remotely controlled by Tieria in the Seraphim.[2][4][25][26] Additionally, the separation caused Seravee to lose its power source, the GN Drive, which is actually installed in Seraphim.[2][4][6][26] Seravee then relies on its large GN Condensers for power and could operate independently for a certain period of time.[2][4][11][26]
With Seraphim docked to its back, Seravee is one of the heaviest Gundams deployed by Celestial Being in AD 2312, but like Virtue, it is relatively light due to the GN Particles' mass reduction effect.[4] For Celestial Being's final battle with the A-Laws and the Innovators, Seravee was fitted with upgrade parts that improved its firepower and defensive capabilities, becoming the GN-008GNHW/B Seravee Gundam GNHW/B.[4][5][23][27] Another GNHW (GN Heavy Weapons) plan for Seravee that was considered for the final battle was the GN-008GNHW/3G Seravee Gundam GNHW/3G.[4][28][29][30] The Seravee Gundam GNHW/3G was designed to enhance the special function of the Seraphim, but it was dropped due to manufacturing difficulties and other problems.[4][28][29][30] The Seravee was later succeeded by the GN-008RE Seravee Gundam II, which was built from the remains of the damaged Seravee Gundam GNHW/B.[31][32][33][34] In an ironic twist, Seravee Gundam II is usually attached to the CB-002 Raphael Gundam in a transformed state to disguise the fact that it is another mobile suit.[4][12][34][35]
Armaments[]
- GN Bazooka II
- Seravee uses a pair of GN Bazooka IIs as one of its main weaponry, and these handheld beam firearms are improved version of GN-005 Gundam Virtue's GN Bazooka.[1][2][4][24] While the firepower of a single GN Bazooka II is more than sufficient to destroy an enemy mobile suit, a higher level of firepower can be obtained by combining the two bazookas into the "Double Bazooka".[2][4][6][21] However, the Double Bazooka has a lower rate of fire and is harder to wield than the individual GN Bazooka II.[11][23] The Double Bazooka is alternatively known as "GN Bazooka II Double Bazooka" as well as "Double Mode", with a single GN Bazooka II also known as "Single Mode".[2][11][23][24] Like the Virtue's GN Bazooka, the Double Bazooka has a maximum output mode called "Burst Mode", which is also known as "Double Bazooka Burst Mode" or "Double Burst Mode".[2][4][23][36] In Burst Mode, the Double Bazooka's barrel splits apart and fires a ball of beam energy instead of a beam shot.[2][4][23][37] The GN Bazooka IIs can also be used together with the Seravee's GN Cannons for a variety of powerful attacks, including the mobile suit's strongest attack - the "Hyper Burst".[1][2][4][6] Each GN Bazooka II has a grip at the rear and another grip at the side, and it is typical held using the rear grip, with the side grip used during Double Bazooka Burst Mode.[2][4][37][38]
- GN Cannon
- Large beam cannons that served as Seravee's other main weaponry, two are mounted on the knees and another two on the backpack.[1][4][16][21] They have a simplified structure compared to Virtue's GN Cannons, but have a higher output.[10] All four GN Cannons can swivel up and down, with the backpack-mounted ones also capable of rotating sideways.[8][18][21][39] The four cannons can combine their output to jointly fire a large beam with destructive power that exceeds the level of a mobile suit, and this attack is known as "Quad Cannon".[2][4][21][40] They can also be used in combination with the GN Bazooka IIs for a variety of attacks.[1][2][4][24] Furthermore, the GN Cannons can transform into arms and are equipped with a GN Beam Saber each.[2][9][13][16] Often referred to as "Hidden Arms", these arms can wield their own GN Beam Sabers for melee combat, and can also be used to grab enemy unit at close range.[4][13][14][16]
- GN Beam Saber
- A high power melee combat weapon that emits a beam blade made of compressed GN Particles when drawn.[2][4][8][16] Since Seravee is not intended for melee combat, its GN Beam Sabers only served as reserve/spare weaponry.[2][4][11][24] Despite this, Seravee has six GN Beam Sabers in total, two stored in its forearms and four more in the GN Cannons, and this ensured it did not suffer from poor melee combat capability like the Virtue.[2][4][9][23] When used, the GN Beam Sabers stored in the forearms slide out to under the hands, allowing them to be grabbed instantly for attacking enemy unit.[2][4][8][13] The GN Beam Sabers stored in the four GN Cannons also have similar sliding mechanism for immediate wielding by the hands of the cannons' hidden arms.[2][4][9][13] Attacking with the GN Beam Saber held by the hidden arm can surprise the opponent due to its atypical nature, and is said to be effective even against experienced ace pilots.[2][4][6][13] However, avoiding such an attack is possible.[13] When necessary, Seravee can deploy all six GN Beam Sabers at once to overwhelm an enemy in melee combat.[4][9] The Seravee's GN Beam Sabers have the same shape as those used by the GN-0000 00 Gundam and the GN-007 Arios Gundam.[4]
- GN Bazooka II + GN Cannon Combinations
- The GN Bazooka II can be connected to the GN Cannon for a variety of combined attacks.[2][4][24][41] Interestingly, Seravee's strongest attack, which utilized both GN Bazooka IIs and all four GN Cannons, does not require such a connection.[2][4][24][42]
- Buster Cannon & Twin Buster Cannon
- The "Buster Cannon" is formed when a GN Bazooka II is attached to a GN Cannon mounted on the backpack.[2][4][24] As implied by its name, the "Twin Buster Cannon" is formed when the pair of GN Bazooka IIs attached separately to the two backpack-mounted GN Cannons.[2][4][24][41]
- Double Bazooka Cannon & Double Bazooka Burst Cannon
- The "Double Bazooka Cannon" is formed when the Double Bazooka is attached to one of the backpack-mounted GN Cannons.[2][6][24] When this combination utilizes the Double Bazooka Burst Mode, it is known as the "Double Bazooka Burst Cannon".[2][6][24] The Double Bazooka Burst Cannon is said to fire a ball of beam energy larger than that of the Double Bazooka Burst Mode.[6]
- Hyper Burst
- Also called "Hyper Burst Mode"[38][40], this is Seravee's strongest attack in which the four GN Cannons are used together with the Double Bazooka Burst Mode, resulting in a huge ball of beam energy being shot at the enemy.[2][24][38][42] A maximum power Hyper Burst can be triggered when both Trans-Am System and Face Burst Mode are activated, with the ball of beam energy fired being much larger than normal.[42]
Special Equipment & Features[]
- The Seravee can generate around itself a spherical GN Field barrier made of compressed GN Particles for 360 degree protection against most physical and beam attacks.[4][8][21][43] Besides protecting itself, Seravee can also use its GN Field to defend friendly unit behind it from incoming attacks.[6][21] While Seravee's predecessor, the GN-005 Gundam Virtue, generated its GN Field using four GN Field generators[20][22][44][45], Seravee is able to deploy the barrier without such dedicated generators.[3][14][38] While the GN Field has high defensive capabilities, it comes at the cost of high particle consumption.[4][6][15][43] Additionally, it is not impenetrable, as shown when the GNMA-Y0001 Empruss easily penetrated the barrier using its Egner Whip.[46] Like Virtue, Seravee is capable of firing its ranged beam weaponry from within the GN Field.[47][48] The defensive performance of the GN Field is improved when Seravee activates Face Burst Mode.[2][4][10][16]
- Face Burst Mode
- When Seravee operates at full power, parts of its backpack will unfold to expose a huge Gundam face, and this is known as "Face Burst Mode".[2][4][5][8] This huge Gundam face was made by Ian Vashti to imitate the GN-000 0 Gundam's face.[2][4] During Face Burst Mode, the mobile suit's GN Particle emission is greatly increased, with copious amount of particles emitted from the pair of vents on the left and right side of the huge Gundam face.[3][12][23][8] Additionally, this mode enhances Seravee's particle control capability as the two large, yellow antennas that unfold as part of the huge Gundam face are particle control antennas, like the four antennas on Seravee's head.[2][4][16] Overall, Face Burst Mode has the effect of improving the GN Field's defensive performance, enable stronger ranged beam attacks, enhance mobility by maximizing the output of the two main thrusters at the bottom of the backpack, etc.[2][4][11][23]
- A special system that when activated would fully release all of the compressed high-density GN Particles accumulated in the Gundam, enhancing its mobility and defensive capabilities as well as allowing it to perform at three times its normal output for a limited time.[15][49][50][51] Additionally, the entire Gundam appeared red and afterimages were generated when moving.[9][15][50][52] For Seravee, which consumes a large amount of particles even during normal operation due to its high-output ranged beam weaponry and GN Field, the increased amount of particles released during Trans-Am Mode lead to greatly improved functionalities.[4][15] Additionally, Seravee could activate Face Burst Mode while in Trans-Am Mode, and this boosted its thrust to the point that it easily pushed back the GNMA-04B11 Trilobite, a mobile armor equipped with three GN Drive Taus, all by itself.[52] Seravee was also able to launch a maximum power Hyper Burst attack when Face Burst Mode was used with Trans-Am.[42]
- Unfortunately, the Trans-Am System is a double-edged sword, as once it ended, the Gundam's performance would drop as all its GN Particles were used up.[15][49][50][53] The Gundams deployed by the Celestial Being since AD 2312 were designed on the premise of using the Trans-Am System, thus, although a certain drop in performance remained unavoidable, the deterioration would not be that severe until they could not battle.[15][43][54] Furthermore, these Gundams were able to deactivate the Trans-Am System at any time.[43][55] Since Celestial Being's Trans-Am System still required a GN Drive for activation during AD 2312,[43][55][56][57] Seravee, which does not have a GN Drive and relies on the one installed in the GN-009 Seraphim Gundam, could not activate Trans-Am after Seraphim separates from it.[15] However, Seravee can be in Trans-Am Mode without the docked Seraphim if the system was activated prior to the two mobile suits separating.[14]

Notes & Trivia[]
- Seravee is likely named after Seraph, a Greek language word for "burning ones".
- Seravee's base weight of 67.2 metric tons includes Seraphim.[29] This mean that the backpack-less Seravee's base weight would be around 39.8 metric tons after deducting Seraphim's base weight.
- Seravee's knee-mounted GN Cannons are likely a nod to Mobile Suit Gundam ZZ's AMX-015 Geymalk, while its extra arms seem to be a tribute to Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam's PMX-003 The O.
- Seravee's destruction is different in the 00 Special Edition. It is changed so that Tieria was able to put up more of a fight and Hiling and Revive worked more in tandem.
