The GN-0000/XN XN 00 Gundam (aka XN 00 Gundam, pronounced Zan Double-Oh Gundam) is a variant of the GN-0000 00 Gundam introduced in the Mobile Suit Gundam 00V side story.
Technology & Combat Characteristics[]
The "GN021XN XN Unit" is a set of upgrade parts for turning the GNR-010 0 Raiser into the GNR-010/XN XN Raiser.[1][2][3][4] However, it is also possible to attach the entire XN Unit onto the back of the GN-0000 00 Gundam, resulting in the "GN-0000/XN XN 00 Gundam".[1][2][3][5] While this deviated from the original usage of the XN Unit, it was conceived as a second plan to test the usefulness of the XN Unit's weapons when used by the 00 Gundam.[1][2][3][4] The XN 00 Gundam retained the GN Sword IIs and GN Beam Sabers of the 00 Gundam, while adding a pair of GN Buster Sword IIIs stored on the XN Unit to the mobile suit's armament.[1][2][3][5] Additionally, the XN 00 Gundam can use the pair of sub arms located on the XN Unit to mount its portable weapons, and even deploy these sub arms as a second pair of arms, enabling it to adopt an unconventional fighting style using four arms.[1][2][3][4] Unfortunately, with the adoption of the XN Raiser canceled, the XN Unit was never built, so the XN 00 Gundam only existed as design data.[1][2][3][4]
Armaments[]
- GN Buster Sword III
- A pair of large physical swords stored on the GN021XN XN Unit attached to the back of the GN-0000/XN XN 00 Gundam.[1][3][4][5] The XN 00 Gundam can dual wield the two GN Buster Sword IIIs, or combine them into a single giant sword.[1][2][3][4] This allows the pilot of the XN 00 Gundam to use the weapon flexibly according to the situation.[4]
- GN Sword II
- Like the original GN-0000 00 Gundam, the XN 00 Gundam is armed with a pair of GN Sword IIs.[1][2][3][6] Equipped with two gun muzzles in its blade section[7][8][9], the GN Sword II can switch between three different modes: Sword Mode where the weapon functions as a physical sword capable of penetrating GN Field, Beam Saber Mode where a beam blade is emitted jointly from the two muzzles, and Rifle Mode where the weapon changes into a rifle-like form with the blade section rotating 90 degrees.[3][6][10][11] The Rifle Mode has multiple firing modes[7][12], and can quickly turn into a sword for melee combat by reversing the rotation of the blade section while keeping the other sections unchanged.[9][13][14] It is possible to fire the Rifle Mode while in this state.[15] Additionally, the two GN Sword IIs can connect grip to grip to form the "Twin Lance" - a large melee weapon with blades on both ends.[3][16][17] The XN 00 Gundam stores the pair of GN Sword IIs on the sub arms of the back-mounted XN Unit, and can wield them using these sub arms.[1][2][3][4]
- GN Beam Saber
- Two GN Beam Sabers are stored on the 00 Gundam's rear waist, and these melee weapons remain usable by the XN 00 Gundam.[3][6] When used, the GN Beam Sabers swung sideways for easier drawing.[3][6] The beam blade emitted by the GN Beam Saber has high attack power, but atmospheric conditions and beam scattering/diffusion measures can reduce its power.[3][6] By adjusting its output and shortening the beam blade, this weapon becomes a GN Beam Dagger, which can be thrown to attack distant enemy.[3][6]
Special Equipment & Features[]
- Sub Arm
- A pair of sub arms are located on the GN021XN XN Unit attached to the back of the GN-0000/XN XN 00 Gundam.[1][3][4][5] Also known as "Arm-type Pylons" and simply "Arms", these sub arms can be used for mounting the pair of GN Sword IIs or other portable weapons.[1][3][4][5] Furthermore, XN 00 Gundam can deploy these sub arms as additional arm units during combat, enabling it to adopt an unconventional fighting style using four arms.[3]
- A system that comprised two original GN Drives, it is the most prominent feature of the GN-0000 00 Gundam.[3][6][18][19] By synchronizing the two GN Drives, the Twin Drive System can produce a GN Particle output that is squared that of a single GN Drive rather than merely doubled.[6][18][20][21] However, synchronizing the two GN Drives was difficult as the five GN Drives that existed at that time had their own subtle individual differences.[3][6][19] In the end, the Twin Drive System only activated after the Trans-Am System was briefly used to forcibly pushed the particle synchronization rate of the two GN Drives to over 80%.[3][6][18][20] Unfortunately, 00 Gundam was still unable to stabilize the Twin Drive System by itself[13][19][22], and must combine with the GNR-010 0 Raiser support unit, which was equipped with a Twin Drive stabilization system, for the full and stable operation of the Twin Drive.[16][23][24][25] As the 0 Raiser is absent from the XN 00 Gundam, the mobile suit likely could not utilize the Twin Drive System fully.[3]
- A system that when activated would fully release all the GN Particles accumulated in the Gundam, enhancing its mobility and defensive capabilities as well as boosting its output by three fold for a limited time.[19][26][27][28] Additionally, the entire Gundam appeared red and afterimages were generated when moving.[26][27][29] However, once Trans-Am ended, the Gundam's performance would drop as all its GN Particles were used up.[26][27][28][29] This negative effect would last until the stored GN Particles within the Gundam returned to normal level.[26][27] The 00 Gundam and its fellow new Gundams were designed on the premise of using the Trans-Am System actively, thus, the drop in performance would not be that severe.[3][19][27][30] Furthermore, these Gundams could deactivate the Trans-Am System at any time.[3][29] Unfortunately, the 00 Gundam was unable to use Trans-Am System properly in combat due to its inability to stabilize its Twin Drive System.[3][19][22][31] As the XN Unit was not designed to stabilize the Twin Drive System[1][2][3][4], the XN 00 Gundam likely face the same Trans-Am limitation as the original 00 Gundam.
- A defensive energy barrier created using compressed high-density GN Particles, it can nullify most beams and physical attacks.[3][29] When both of 00 Gundam's GN Drives rotate to the front, their emitted GN Particles can be used to generate a partially visible GN Field to defend against frontal attacks.[3][6][20][32] The XN 00 Gundam should be able to do the same.
History[]
The GN-0000/XN XN 00 Gundam only existed as design data as the GN021XN XN Unit was never built.
