Disambiguation:

The gMS-01 Gelgoog is a mobile suit introduced in the Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX television series.

Technology & Combat Characteristics[]

The gMS-01 Gelgoog is the Principality of Zeon's first mobile suit designed using technology reverse-engineered from the RX-78-02 White Gundam, resulting in a mobile suit with superior performance in all fields compared to its predecessor, the MS-06 Zaku. Because of this, the Gelgoog is the first Zeon-designed mobile suit capable of using beam weaponry, with its weapons complement of a beam rifle and beam saber giving it better firepower than the Zaku. Both Federation and Zeon's pilots consider Gelgoog to be better than RGM-79 Light-Type Guncannon.

Armaments[]

  • Beam Rifle
The Gelgoog carries a pair of beam rifles as its primary ranged weapons. Both rifles can be stored on the back skirt when not in use.
  • Beam Saber
The primary close combat weapon of the Gelgoog. Asides from its primary beam blade, it can generate a second blade from its hilt to form a double-sided beam saber. When not in use, it is stored on the back of the waist.

Special Equipment & Features[]

  • Friction-cancellation drive technology
Applied to the Shiiko Sugai's unit, developed by Mosk Han, the secret backer of the clan. A special field is generated in the mobile suit joints to improve their response speed, and also reduces friction resistance in the mobile suit's joints. The technology is unknown to Zeon as of 0085.
  • Grappling Hook
A special equipment unique to Shiiko Sugai's mobile suits, installed onto the mobile suit's arms, which shoots out a tether from the fingers that can attach itself to objects including mobile suits. It is an essential part of Shiiko's signature "Stigma Attack", a maneuver which uses the tether to perform difficult maneuvers around enemy mobile suits, including firing beam rifles remotely via the tether from unexpected angles.

History[]

U.C. 0079[]

When Char Aznable brought back the captured RX-78-02 White Gundam to the Principality of Zeon in U.C. 0079, he made a recommendation to Zeon High Command to have their mobile suit development focus on reverse-engineering the Gundam. This new initiative, backed by Kycilia Zabi, resulted in several mobile suit development programs, including the MS-14, to be cancelled in favor of the new Gundam-based mobile suit design.[2]

The Gelgoog would first see combat during the One Year War, with several Gelgoogs being present during the operation to destroy the Federation-controlled Solomon from crashing into Granada.[1]

U.C. 0085[]

Two Gelgoogs would be acquired through illegal means by the CRS clan, using the mobile suits in clan battles to collect combat data for their private security backer. One Gelgoog unit would be fitted with brand new friction-cancellation drive technology developed by former Federation engineer Mosk Han to improve the mobile suit's performance. This modified unit would be piloted by Shiiko Sugai, a famed Earth Federation mobile suit ace known as "The Witch" with over a hundred kills to her name, who would use it to battle against the Pomeranians in her quest to destroy the gMS-α Red Gundam.

Notes & Trivia[]

  • The design of the Gelgoog closely resembles the RGM-79 GM from the original Universal Century timeline. Additionally, Shiiko Sugai's Gelgoog also has the white and red color scheme of the RGM-79 GM, further reinforcing the connection.
    • According to the information booklets for the movie, the MS-14 Gelgoog in this timeline was cancelled in favor of the new Gundam-based mobile suit as their next-gen mobile suit. This helps explain the drastic redesign of the gMS-01 Gelgoog in Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX, in comparison to other Zeon mobile suit designs in the series. It is likely that the "Gelgoog" name was then co-opted for the gMS-01.
  • The three variants color scheme are possibly reference to prime-UC's equivalent unit: The Standard livery resembles that of of MS-14A Gelgoog, Sugai's unit resembles that of RGM-79 GM, and Bocata's livery resembles the RMS-179 GM II in AEUG Color.
  • The left shoulder emblem on Sugai's Gelgoog has a sentence that says "And Death Shall Have No Dominion", which is the title of a poem by writer Dylan Thomas based off a passage in the Bible, specifically Romans 6:9.
  • The friction-cancellation drive technology developed by GQX's Mosk Han is likely the parallel version of the magnetic coating developed by prime-Mosk Han; in the original Universal Century, it is first applied to RX-78-3 G-3 Gundam before applied to RX-78-2.
  • The double beam saber feature, which is mentioned to be an exclusive gimmick of the High Grade model kit, is a likely reference to the original Gelgoog's beam naginata which also had a similar feature.
