GENESIS Alpha is a powerful propulsion device created by ZAFT and introduced in Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Astray R.

Technical Information

GENESIS Alpha was developed as a means to launch ships to faraway places in the solar system by firing a laser at the ships' solar sail, allowing the ships to travel much faster than any other space vessel. Although designed for propulsion purposes, GENESIS Alpha's laser had no problem destroying any objects in its path if they did not have the appropriate receiver. GENESIS Alpha is protected by multiple layers of Phase Shift armor, and could be concealed by its Mirage Colloid Stealth System. The GENESIS Alpha was later redesigned by ZAFT into a strategic weapon, the GENESIS.

History

GENESIS Alpha was a prototype GENESIS unit and was protected by ZAFT pilot Ash Gray. Ash used it to give his ZGMF-X11A Regenerate Gundam a speed boost, allowing his mobile suit to travel at very high speeds. During the First Alliance-PLANT War, the Earth Alliance became aware of GENESIS Alpha and attacked it, resulting in the theft of the ZGMF-X12A Testament Gundam, which was stationed there together with the Regenerate Gundam. GENESIS Alpha was eventually taken over by the Junk Guild with help from Serpent Tail. It then became one of the Junk Guild bases, and the Junk Guild ship ReHOME used it after the war to fly to Mars.

In late C.E. 73, the Junk Guild tried to use GENESIS Alpha in a failed attempt to avert the "Break The World" Incident by destroying the remains of Junius Seven using its laser. However, Ash Gray, now a brainwashed Earth Alliance/The Clan MS pilot, used the Testament Gundam's Quantum Computer virus to alter GENESIS Alpha's targeting data, nearly causing the Junk Guild to fire the weapon at Earth instead. Although this was averted, Ash broke free of his brainwashing in a later battle and caused GENESIS Alpha to destroy an Earth Alliance base before committing suicide. In response, the EA staged a full-scale attack on GENESIS Alpha; this forced the Junk Guild to abandon the base and activate a self-destruct system to prevent its capture.
