The GAT-X130 Aile Calamity Gundam is a Mobile Suit introduced in the manga Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Eclipse.
Technology & Combat Characteristics[]
A part of the second phase GAT-X series developed by the Atlantic Federation, the Aile Calamity Gundam was capable of atmospheric flight thanks to the flight module equipped on the left and right sides of the backpack. In addition to various weapons mounted on the flight modules, shoulders, torso, and forearms, it was armed with a handheld composite weapon "Adler", which was capable of transforming into four different configurations. Due to its long development time, the Aile Calamity was an extremely capable air combat mobile suit, with specifications surpassing the OMNI Enforcer leadership's expectations. However, due to its high performance, it was extremely difficult to control.[1]
Armaments[]
- Aerial Battle-use Composite Weapon "Adler"
- Aile Calamity's main weapon, which features a sharp "hammer head". Its handle also doubles as a rifle and a beam blade emitter is mounted behind the hammer head. The weapon can transform into four different configurations.[2]
- Warhammer Mode
- A striking weapon for use in melee combat that is almost as long as the Aile Calamity is tall.[2]
- Rifle Mode A
- The hammer head is moved to the top, allowing the Aile Calamity to fire the rifle from over the shoulder.[2]
- Rifle Mode B
- The hammer head is moved to the bottom, allowing the Aile Calamity to fire the rifle from the hip.[2]
- Javelin Mode
- The hammer head flips back and a beam blade is generated from an emitter behind it, transforming the Adler into a javelin.[2]
- "Scylla" 580mm Multi-phase Energy Cannon
- Like the originally Calamity, the Aile Calamity has a high powered energy cannon mounted in its upper torso.[2]
- 120mm Triple-barrel Gatling Gun
- Two triple-barrel Gatling guns are mounted on the wings' tips. The weapon's mount is rotatable, and also allows the gun to swivel vertically.[2]
- 57mm Dual Shoulder Cannon
- A pair of double-barreled cannons are mounted on the shoulders. The base of the cannons are rotatable, while the cannons' barrels can elevate upwards if needed.[2]
- 220mm 4-tube Multipurpose Missile Pod
- A rotatable missile pod is mounted under each dual shoulder cannon. [2]
- Beam Gauntlet
- A pair of small shields mounted on the forearms, they are fitted with beam saber emitters, and can be used when attached or detached to become handheld weapons.[2]
- "Schlag" 125mm High-Energy Long-Range Beam Cannon
- A pair of optional beam cannons that can be mounted on the Aile Calamity's flight modules. These were the same beam cannons as the ones equipped on the backpack of the original Calamity Gundam.[1]
Special Equipment & Features[]
- Like the GAT-X131 Calamity Gundam, the Aile Calamity is equipped with Trans Phase Armor.[1] It is a two-layer armor system with the PS armor in the inner layer activating only when the outer armor is breached. This design thus helps to reduce energy consumption and allows the equipped suit to have a longer operational time as well as for more power to be reserved for the suits' weapons.
History[]
As part of the Rebuild 1416 Program, the OMNI Enforcer originally intended to develop three units, corresponding to the GAT-X105 Strike Gundam's three Striker Packs: Aile (flight), Sword (close combat), and Launcher (artillery). At the request of the military, the artillery unit - the GAT-X131 Calamity Gundam - was developed and rolled out first, followed by the GAT-X133 Sword Calamity, equipped with an improved Sword Striker.[1]
However, since Calamity was first designed as an artillery unit, redesigning it for flight proved to be difficult, and the Aile Calamity was the last completed unit out of all three. Due to its long development time, its aerial combat capability surpassed the military's initial expectations. As such, a plan was conceived to develop an IWSP Calamity, with both close combat and long ranged capabilities, based on the Aile Calamity's design. However, despite its high performance, the Aile Calamity was extremely difficult to control. Due to the lack of capable pilots, the Aile Calamity was not mass produced.[1]
