The Long Dagger is a Mobile Suit Variation from the series Gundam SEED and appears in Gundam SEED Astray.

Technology & Combat Characteristics

The GAT-01D1 Duel Dagger is a mass production mobile suit based off of the GAT-X102 Duel that has been optimized for use by Naturals. As such the mobile suit is a general purpose model capable of operating on Earth and in space and can handle both ranged and melee combat. Because it is based on the Duel the Duel Dagger is particularly proficient at close combat, possessing two beam sabers like the prototype, unlike the GAT-01 Strike Dagger which was the primary mass production mobile suit.

Since this suit is the mass produced version of the GAT-01D Long Dagger, the armament is the same as the one on the prototype version. The only differences between the two suit is the color scheme and the installation of a Natural-OS in the Duel Dagger.

Armaments

  • Beam Saber
  • "Igellstelung" CIWS
  • Shield
  • Fortrestra Armor
The Fortrestra Armor is heavy combat equipment inspired by the Assault Shroud ZAFT used on the Duel. Designed for heavy combat the Fortrestra Armor includes additional armor mounted the the mobile suit's legs, waist, torso, arms, and shoulders. The heavy armor provides additional protection from the solid projectile weapons used by the majority of ZAFT's mobile suits, but weighs the Long Dagger down and cuts mobility. To offset this the leg and waist armor includes additional thrusters to improve mobility. To improve offensive ability the Armor mounts on the shoulders a clip-fed cannon and an 8-tube missile launcher.
  • Shoulder-mounted Cannon
  • 8-tube Missile Launcher
  • 57mm High-energy Beam Rifle
  • 175mm Grenade Launcher

History

The mass production Duel Dagger is one of several variations of the original GAT-X102 Duel. At first, the Earth Alliance created the prototype Long Dagger (which was planned to be named "Duel Dagger"), which was tested by humans with enhanced abilities, like Combat Coordinators. Afterwards, a Natural-OS was installed on the Long Dagger and put into limited mass production in form of the Duel Dagger.

The Duel Dagger was eventually given to and operated by numerous noted Alliance aces. Two Duel Daggers were piloted by EA ace Edward Harrelson and EA mobile suit instructor Rena Imelia. Several Duel Dagger pilots also took part in the Second Battle of Jachin Due, but most of them were killed by ZAFT's elite Joule Team.
