The Fuji-class is a transport ship that appears in Gundam the Ride: A Baoa Qu.

Technology & Combat Characteristics[]

The Fuji-class was a Salamis-class cruiser with a cabin and cargo block added to the rear of the hull in a hurry in order to protect and transport the rapidly increasing number of war refugees. The block came with broadside hangars for Space Launch craft, as well as mobile suits in emergency situations. The ship refit was newly classified as a Fuji-class transport ship, named after the Salamis-class cruiser Fuji, which was the first ship to be refitted. However, this conversion to a transport ship is only a simple one, and the design takes into account the fact that the ship can be quickly returned to the status of a Salamis-class cruiser when needed.

In the Fuji-class, the single mega particle guns located on the port and starboard sub-bridges and at the rear of the hull were removed and covered with cabin cargo blocks. Alongside these cabin blocks were an additional quartet of secondary thrusters to assist in propulsion of the heavier ship. Although its artillery capability was reduced, it was highly maneuverable when housing refugees or transporting supplies in an emergency. The energy consumed by the mega particle guns could be diverted to life support systems in the cabin, so the habitability was surprisingly high. However, the larger size of the ship made it a potentially larger target, especially to enemy mobile suits, bringing a risk to the ship should it find itself in the thick of combat.

Armaments[]

  • Mega Particle Gun
The Fuji refit has three of these cannons as its main armament, with one mounted on each side and one mounted on the front of the vessel.
  • 6-tube Missile Launcher
A 6-tube missile launcher is mounted on each side of the ship, behind the forward starboard and portside mega particle cannons.
  • Twin Machine Gun
The Fuji refit mounts four twin machine gun turrets for defense, with one on each side of the bridge while the other two were mounted side by side at the end of struts towards the front of the cruiser.
  • Large Missile Launch Tube
Sixteen large missile launchers were mounted in the bow, with eight on each side. The missile tubes are aligned in eight forward facing slots, with each one housing two missile launchers. These missile launchers could be loaded with nuclear warheads and served as anti-ship and anti-fortress weapons.

History[]

The Suruga was one of the transport ships converted from the Salamis-class to the Fuji-class. At the end of the One Year War, the Suruga belonged to the Federation Space Force's 7th Fleet, and was tasked with transporting space immigrants from Earth to Side 6. On December 31, 0079, Suruga boarded a group of space immigrants at the transit point, Confeito (former space fortress Solomon), and set sail for Side 6. It looked like a smooth voyage with no particular troubles, but that day was the day of the last all-out battle of the One Year War, the Battle of A Baoa Qu.

The Suruga is discovered and attacked by a task force of the Principality of Zeon, which has been on heightened alert due to the siege of A Baoa Qu. Henken Bekkener, captain of the Suruga, put the space immigrants on the Escape Launch and entrusted it to his mobile suit unit, "Jack the Halloween", to escape from the ship. Immediately after the escape launch was ejected, Suruga was sunk by the mega particle cannon attack from a MA-04X Zakrello. Later, the Escape Launch carrying the space immigrants was rescued by the SCV-73 Blanc Rival on January 1, 0080, thanks to the efforts of Jack Bayard and Adam Stingray, captains of Jack the Halloween squadron.
