The Flying Armor is a support vehicle developed for the RX-178 Gundam Mk-II introduced in the anime Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam.
Technology & Combat Characteristics[]
AEUG's strategy relied on launching lightning-fast attacks on Earth Federation Forces bases, such as Jaburo, from space. However, while it was possible to re-enter the atmosphere using the ballute system, it rendered the mobile suit defenseless during the process, and AEUG was unable to use large HLV either due to financial reasons. Therefore, the Flying Armor was developed. In addition, it also served as a proof of concept for the atmospheric entry ability of Project Zeta.[1]
The Flying Armor was designed so that the Gundam Mk-II could lock its feet into place at the top of the rear section. Additionally, two sections at the front contained grips so the Mk-II could lock into the Flying Armor with all four limbs if necessary. The surface area of the Flying Armor was enough to cover and protect the entire Mk-II during atmospheric entry. There are also hover nozzles on the bottom, allowing it to function as a sub-flight system, like the Dodai Kai, within the atmosphere.
