The Flaga Estate Burning is an event, featured in the anime Mobile Suit Gundam SEED.

Prelude[]

Al Da Flaga was an influential and affluential man, being a wealthy member of the Atlantic Federation. However, he was incredibly vain: he had a son, Mu La Flaga, but he grew to resent him as he felt he had "inferior" genes from his mother. As a result, Al approached Dr. Ulen Hibiki, a geneticist working on solving the problems with Coordinator reproduction, with a request: he wanted a clone of himself in exchange for funding for Ulen's Ultimate Coordinator Project. While cloning was outright illegal, Al believed that his money meant that he was above the law. Reluctantly, Ulen agreed.[1]

G.A.R.M. R&D went on to make at least two clones: Rau Le Flaga and a younger clone later known as Rey Za Burrel. Al took Rau under his wing, intending to make him his inheritor and disinheriting Mu in the process. However, there was a major problem: the cloning process was still imperfect. Because of this, Rau's telomeres were the same length as Al's, meaning that Rau would perish before he could properly inherit his fortune. Deeming Rau a failure, Al abandoned him as well.[1]

The Burning[]

In the C.E. 50's, Rau trapped his progenitor and his wife inside their estate during a party. Furious at the revelation of his short lifespan and the callousness of his father's actions, Rau set the mansion ablaze. Al and his wife both perished in the fire, leaving the young Mu an orphan.[1]

Aftermath[]

Though Mu and Rau survived, the two would take separate paths. While most of Mu's past beyond this point to him joining OMNI Enforcer is unknown, Rau would go on to join ZAFT, wearing a mask to hide his resemblance to his father and using his superhuman skills and military accomplishments to hide the fact that he wasn't a Coordinator. He would meet Gilbert Durandal and strike up a friendship of sorts with him, even taking his younger clone Rey under his wing.[2]
