The Five Great Clans are a faction introduced in the anime Mobile Suit Gundam SEED.

Overview

The Five Great Clans are the aristocratical governing council of the Orb Union, composed of five of the most powerful and influential families from Orb's noble class. The composition of the council is formed independently, regardless of the national election, and the nation's Chief Representative and Prime Minister are chosen from the leaders of the five clans, with the remaining clan leaders serving as aids. Status as part of the Five Great Clans is not permanent, and certain families may be replaced by lower ones based on political standing or due to the discontinuation of the family line.
