The RX-80PR-3 Pale Rider Dullahan is a prototype mobile suit that is featured in the Mobile Suit Gundam Side Story: Missing Link manga series.
Technology & Combat Characteristics[]
The last Pale Rider of the Earth Federation rebuilt based on the Pale Rider Cavalry, which was abandoned in the One Year War. HADES isn't installed, but the performance is the same as the Cavalry. However, the original equipment (such as the Shekinah and reactive armor) have been lost.
Armaments[]
- 60mm Vulcan cannon
A basic armament of many Federation mobile suits, a pair of 60mm three-barrel vulcan guns are mounted in the Dullahan's head and are used for mid-range and close combat defense. While ineffective against the armor of other mobile suits, they are useful for intercepting incoming missiles/rockets, destroying mobile suit sensors, and attacking lightly-armored vehicles.
- Heat lance
As its name implies, the heat lance uses thermal energy to heat up its blade to super-high temperatures, similar to the heat weapons used by the Principality of Zeon. The high heat allows the lance to melt the enemy's armor on contact, which when combined with the force applied to the attack, can inflict significant damage.
- Guardian Shield
A characteristic custom armament created for the RGM-79HC GM Guard Custom and which was equipped for use by the Pale Rider Dullahan, the guardian shield is a huge shield that consisted of five layers made of four different metallic alloys. This design is meant to protect against penetration by and impact from physical projectiles. The shield also has anti-beam coating on its surface to defend against beam weaponry. The effectiveness of this shield can be seen by the high number of GM Guard Customs that survived the war. Two 60mm Vulcan Guns are stored on either side of the shield.
- Hyper Bazooka
The Hyper Bazooka is a portable, handheld, anti-ship rocket launcher that functions like a recoilless rifle, with gas ejected from the rear of the weapon. It is loaded with five rounds in a magazine towards the rear end. The Hyper Bazooka is effective against large groups of mobile suits due to its ability to cause damage over a wide area, though it is primarily used to destroy less-maneuverable targets such as battleships and buildings. When required, the Dullahan can be equipped with two Hyper Bazookas for increased firepower, with one held in each hand.
- Hyper Beam Rifle
The same beam rifle as used by Gundam Unit 4 "G04" and Unit 5 "G05". Powered by an E-Cap, it is an enhanced version of the beam rifle carried by the RX-78-2, with improved output as well as accuracy.
History[]
The RX-80PR-3 Pale Rider Dullahan is a restored Pale Rider Cavalry that was abandoned during assembly in One Year War. Since the HADES research facility had been destroyed during One Year War, it was not equipped with HADES.
First debuting in June 5th U.C 0080, piloted by Phil Dale. It was tasked with intercepting the incoming Musai-class Cruiser alongside shuttles. The interception was partly thwarted by numerous MS-06F-2 Zaku II F2 Type and Pale Rider [VG] piloted by Vincent Gleissner. While the Dullahan's allies were able to destroy the Musai, the Komusai had been launched and had already descended to Earth.
Surprised by the appearance of the Pale Rider, the federation forces eventually found the Zeon Submarine Base where the Pale Rider was seemingly kept. At night the federation assaulted the base with the numerous artillery fire from RX-75 Guntank followed with the airdrop of mobile suits including the Dullahan. There they faced Pale Rider [VG] and MS-08TX Efreet piloted by Fred Reber. The Dullahan itself was eventually surprised attacked by the MSM-04 Acguy piloted by Chloe Croce. The Pale Rider, Acguy and remaining Zeon troops eventually retreats as the base was destroyed. The Dullahan can be seen standing among the remains of the base.
Eventually the federation pursuing forces tracked down the destination of the Pale Rider [VG] and the Acguy to the former research facility of HADES in the Mariana Islands. The pursuing forces were ambushed by Pale Rider [VG] sitting on a piece of a fallen colony. While the Dullahan charges straight at the Pale Rider [VG], the remaining pursuing forces were pinned down by RX-79［G］WR Full Armor Slave Wraith piloted by Travis Kirkland and RX-75 Guntank Mass Production Type piloted by Marvin Herriot.
The Pale Rider [VG] destroys the colony piece dropping both the Dullahan and Pale Rider [VG] into the water below. There, Pale Rider [VG] disarms the Dullahan and pins it down. Dullahan attempts to escape by increasing the thrusters output to which Pale Rider [VG] responds by activating HADES to keep it pinned down. The Dullahan reactor eventually explodes due to over-stress from the usage, finally destroying it.
Variants[]
- A variant of the Pale Rider Dullahan that is also not equipped with the HADES system used by the Titans.
