The NZ-999 II Neo Zeong (セカンドネオ・ジオング, NZ-999 II Neo Zeong^?) is a mobile armor that appears in the film Mobile Suit Gundam Narrative.

Design & Development

The NZ-999 Neo Zeong was developed as an exclusive machine for Full Frontal; the II (read as "second") Neo Zeong was assembled using spare parts created during the development of the original. A new frame was added to the front of the shoulder weapon bay in order to increase the rigidity, and the front hatch of the weapon bay was removed. The added frame is painted red, becoming a characteristic feature. In terms of armament, wired guidance function was incorporated into the arms, making movements reminiscent of the MSN-02 Zeong's possible.

Armaments

• 60mm Vulcan Gun

Mounted in the head of the Sinanju Stein, the core unit of the II Neo Zeong, the pair of vulcan guns are not very powerful and typically unable to penetrate mobile suit armor, but they are useful in restricting enemy movements, intercepting missiles and the likes.

• Beam Saber

The beam sabers are part of Sinanju Stein's original armaments and stored in its arms. They can be used by the Sinanju Stein when enemies close in on the II Neo Zeong.

• Large Beam Axe

A large melee weapon which has beam blade generators on both ends. It is a weapon designated to the Sinanju Stein and can also be used as a Beam Naginata. It is a combination of two modified Sinanju's beam axes, with their grips extended for a longer reach. It can be disconnected into two parts at the grip section and stored separately on the II Neo Zeong's shoulders, below the weapons container.

• Large Caliber High Mega Particle Cannon

Mounted on II Neo Zeong's waist, this cannon has a limited rate of fire but the highest output of all the unit's ranged beam weaponry.

• Large Mega Particle Shoulder Cannon

The II Neo Zeong has six mega particle cannons on its shoulders, four in front and two in the back. These cannons can fire a scatter beam or a focused beam, and the latter is capable of punching a hole through a colony's wall.

• Psycho Shard Generator

A large psycommu armament and also the II Neo Zeong's most powerful weapon. The generators are stored within the sides of the skirt armor and in the large shoulder thruster units. Once deployed, they create a massive ring of golden hexagonal crystals, the psycho shards, behind the machine's back. The psycho shards then generate a massive psycho field, which is said to be capable of actualizing the pilot's thoughts.

• Rocket Bazooka

The same type of weapon as used by the Sinanju, the two rocket bazookas are stored in the II Neo Zeong's shoulder-mounted weapon containers. They are used by the Sinanju Stein and each shot is capable of destroying a MS or puncture the armor of most battleships.

• Beam Rifle

Used by the docked Sinanju Stein, the pair of beam rifles are essentially the high beam rifle without the jacket parts, making them visually identical to the one used by the Sinanju, including the sensor unit that could not be attached to the high beam rifle due to the jacket. They could be stored on the II Neo Zeong's shoulders, below the weapon containers.

• Shield

The same shield as used by Sinanju Stein, it is mounted on the back when the suit is in the II Neo Zeong.

• Wired Large Funnel Bit

The two primary arms of the II Neo Zeong have five large wired funnel bits on the tip of each arm, and when they are destroyed, a spare set stored within the arms can be deployed as replacements. The four secondary arms also have the same wired large funnels bits, but they are stored in the arms and deployed only when required. As with most funnels and bits, the wired large funnel bits are used to engage multiple enemy units or overwhelm a single target, and each of them is armed with a beam gun that can be used while attached to the arms or when deployed as wire-guided remote weapons. The funnel bits also can release 3 drill-tipped wires for latching onto an MS and hijacking it. Once hijacked, the enemy MS can be used by the II Neo Zeong to engage other enemies. Although the bits lack the dexterity of regular mobile suit hands, they are still capable of pinning down enemy suits and has enough strength to crush a normal mobile suit's head.

Special Equipment & Features

• Sturm Booster

Two massive propellant tanks ending in rocket thrusters are connected to the underside of the II Neo Zeong, providing it with higher mobility and additional fuel for longer deployment times as well as improved cruising range. Should these sturm boosters be destroyed, the main thrusters on the underside of the mobile armor will take over. The Sturm Boosters also have to be removed when the II Neo Zeong is landing.

• Psycho-Frame Cockpit

The psycho-frame is a technology that builds the brainwave-to-machine code translator known as psycommu into the metal frame of a Mobile Suit. This allows a Newtype pilot to mentally connect with their mobile suits operating system, similar to the bio-sensor, and directly issue commands via the pilots brainwaves. Arguably, a mobile suit with a psycho-frame and Newtype pilot will have a greater response time than an ordinary suit and pilot.

• Landing Gear

The II Neo Zeong has three landing gears, two stored underneath its front skirt armor and one mounted in the rear skirt armor. Due to their large size, the two front landing gears can also serve as sub-arm units to grab onto enemy mobile suits which get close to the II Neo Zeong.

• Waist I-Field Generator

The II Neo Zeong has four waist I-Field Generators, two at the front and two at the rear, which protects it from all beam attacks. The duration of the I-Field itself is unknown, though the actual coverage extends only to the main body of the mobile armor.

• Weapon Containers

The shoulder compartment of the II Neo Zeong contains weapon containers that can be used to store the Sinanju Stein's rocket bazookas, as well as other weaponry such as missiles.

History

After the defeat of the Sleeves, the II Neo Zeong was captured by the Earth Federation Forces. It was then secretly transferred to the Republic of Zeon military by Michele Luio through Luio & Co.. It was assigned to the Gulltoppr, a modified Chivvay-class specifically designed to carry it, with the MSN-06S-2 Sinanju Stein as its core unit and Cyber Newtype Zoltan Akkanen as its pilot. It was intended as their trump card for the capture of the RX-0 Unicorn Gundam 03 Phenex.

In U.C. 0097, the Shezarr Unit and Zoltan's team encountered one another in the Side 6 colony Metis when both detected the presence of the Phenex there through the psycho monitor. Unbeknownst to them, Michele faked the psycho monitor readings to lure them into one another. As Zoltan violently attacked Jona Basta's RX-9/B Narrative Gundam B-Packs in the Sinanju Stein, the resulting psycho-frame resonance between the two mobile suits lured the Phenex to the colony, just as Michele predicted.

After the Phenex easily disarmed the Sinanju Stein using its pair of Armed Armor DE, Zoltan ordered the Gulltoppr to deploy the II Neo Zeong, despite his subordinate's objection that it was too dangerous to be used in a colony. Meanwhile, the Narrative's NT-D System activated in response to the Phenex, causing Jona to lose control of it as it autonomously captured the Phenex using its wire-guided assault units, which were revealed to contain Psycho Jammers and able to function wirelessly.

When the II Neo Zeong entered the colony by breaking through its outer wall, Jona unconsciously took control of it using the NT-D System's Psycommu Jack and moved to dock with it. In the Narrative, Jona experienced a flashback of how Michele betrayed him and Rita by lying to him and sacrificing Rita to the Titans, leading to her eventual disappearance while test piloting the Phenex. Enraged, he attempted to blast the entire colony to pieces using the II Neo Zeong's hand-mounted Wired Large Funnel Bits. However, he was calmed down by the Phenex, now revealed to contain Rita's spirit. With the Narrative stopped, Zoltan regained control of the II Neo Zeong and retreated with it.

Later, Ellic Hugo, Zoltan's supposed second-in-command who was secretly monitoring him, reported the incident at Metis to Monaghan Bakharo. The two discussed how the original Neo Zeong's core technology, including the Psycho Shard Generator, were all black boxes, possibly built by Full Frontal using technology from beyond this world. Monaghan stated that he had hoped the II Neo Zeong would be their trump card, but it is useless if it is uncontrollable. He asked Ellic to abort the operation and evacuate the Gulltoppr, as a Federation fleet was coming for the ship and he intended all other members of the crew to be silenced. However, Zoltan overheard the conversation and confronted Ellic. Ellic attempted to shoot him, but Zoltan was faster and killed her instead.

As the Federation fleet, led by the General Revil, approached, Zoltan docked with the II Neo Zeong in the Sinanju Stein and engaged the Federation fleet in Side 6's helium-3 storage base. The General Revil deployed its mobile suit teams, consisting of RGM-89A2 Jegan Type-A2 (GR) and RGZ-95C ReZEL Type-C (GR), but the II Neo Zeong easily annihilated them. The fleet fired at the helium-3 tanks that the Gulltoppr was hiding behind, destroying the ship. In response, Zoltan activated the Psycho Shard Generator and telekinetically drove a helium-3 gas tank toward the Federation fleet. The fleet opened fire on the tank, but it was protected by the same telekinetic force moving it. Zoltan then crushed the tank, somehow causing the helium-3 to undergo fusion reaction, triggering a massive explosion that annihilated the entire fleet.

Three Jegan Type-A2 survived the explosion and engaged the II Neo Zeong. They managed to destroy the II Neo Zeong's Sturm Boosters by targeting gaps in its I-field, having been directed by the Phenex. Zoltan responded by using the Wired Funnel Bits to hijack the Jegans and using them to attack the Phenex, which was eventually captured by the II Neo Zeong's Wired Funnel Bits' wires. However, the Phenex was saved by the arrival of Jona in the RX-9/C Narrative Gundam C-Packs. The Narrative proved to be much faster than before and evaded all of the II Neo Zeong's Wired Funnel Bits and beam cannons. With the aid of Phenex, the Narrative sent a burst of psycho energy at the II Neo Zeong, destroying its arms.

Now desperate, Zoltan detonated another helium-3 tank. The Phenex shielded the Narrative from the impact, but was momentarily knocked out, causing it to once again be captured by the II Neo Zeong. Zoltan sought to use the Phenex's power to detonate all of the helium-3 tanks at the storage base, which would destroy all nearby colonies and send their debris raining down on Earth, causing a disaster greater than even Operation British. However, Michele and Brick Teclato piloted a Base Jabber Type 89 into the battle and dropped off several crates of psycho-frame fragments, empowering the Phenex. Enraged, Zoltan grabbed the Base Jabber and pulled another helium-3 tank near, but the tank was destroyed by Iago Haakana in his RGM-96Xs Jesta (Shezarr Type) (equipped with the boosters of RX-9/A Narrative Gundam A-Packs) before he could detonate it.

As Iago distracted the II Neo Zeong, Jona attempted to free the Phenex. However, the II Neo Zeong soon took control of Iago's Jesta and used it to attack the Narrative. Iago demanded Jona to shoot him, but Jona refused, causing the II Neo Zeong to gain the upper hand. At the moment, Michele piloted the Base Jabber into one of the Jesta's beams before ramming into the cable of the Funnel Bit controlling it, freeing Iago at the cost of her and Brick's lives. Suddenly, all of the psycho-frame fragments gathered at the damaged Narrative, shielding it from the II Neo Zeong's beam attacks.

Firing the Wired Funnel Bits at full power, the II Neo Zeong finally broke through the psycho-frame barrier. However, the Narrative dove out. The II Neo Zeong continued to fire at it, destroying its head and limbs, but Jona escaped the Gundam in its Core Fighter. Zoltan attempted to grab it with one of the II Neo Zeong's wire-guided arms, but it was destroyed by a Beam Magnum shot from the ARX-014S Silver Bullet Suppressor, which was watching the battle from afar. This allowed Jona to reach the Phenex's cockpit and activate its Destroy Mode. Despite its vast firepower, the II Neo Zeong could not score a direct hit on the Phenex due to its blinding speed, allowing the Phenex to destroy one of its shoulders and its rear skirt armor.

In his desperation to defeat the Phenex, Zoltan undocked from the II Neo Zeong to fight the Phenex using his MSN-06S-2 Sinanju Stein. Empowered by the spirits of Rita and Michele, the Phenex impaled the Sinanju Stein through the cockpit using its Beam Tonfa and slammed the mobile suit into the II Neo Zeong, killing Zoltan. However, Zoltan's spirit channeled his remaining energy into the II Neo Zeong, causing all the helium-3 tanks to reach critical state. Just as all hope seemed lost, the Phenex used the psycho-frame fragments scattered by the Base Jabber to stop the process by generating a pair of wings using its Armed Armor DEs. The II Neo Zeong, and with it, the Sinanju Stein, disappeared in the resulting light.
