The F90R Gundam F90 Reconnoiter Type (aka Gundam F90 R-Type) is a variant of the F90 Gundam F90 introduced in the F90 A to Z PROJECT.

Technology & Combat Characteristics[]

The R-Type is one of the many mission packs developed for the F90 Gundam F90 by the Strategic Naval Research Institute, and was developed for reconnaissance missions in areas where Minovsky particles are dispersed. The R-Type's main feature is the stealth armor covering the upper body that is equipped with optical camera units. An optical camera gun unit is also equipped on each forearm, and containers storing mines and dummy balloons are mounted on the legs for support purposes.[1]

Armaments[]

  • Vulcan Gun
A pair of shell-firing weapon built into the head. Though not powerful, its high rate of fire meant it was employed to intercept enemy missiles/units, as warning shots, and to destroy lightly armored targets.
  • Beam Saber
The beam saber is a small device held in the mobile suit's hands when deployed and is powered by a rechargeable energy capacitor. It emits high-energy Minovsky particles to form a blade-shaped I-field (via manipulation of electromagnetic fields), and then fills this I-field shell with superheated Minovsky particle plasma to produce an effective cutting blade. The F90 R-Type has two beam sabers stored on the backpack.
  • Mine
An unknown number of mines are stored in the containers mounted on the leg hardpoints. These mines can be used as support equipment when fighting breaks out during the reconnaissance mission or when retreating, contributing greatly to the battle of allied forces.

Special Equipment & Features[]

  • Stealth Armor
Mounted on the F90 R-Type's upper body, it is equipped with multiple optical camera units facing the front, sides and back. The armor also blocks heat generated by the mobile suit to some extent, making it difficult for the enemy's sensors and radar to detect the machine. The stealth armor can also detach and transform into a standalone reconnaissance unit.
  • Optical Camera Gun Unit
Mounted on each forearm hardpoint, the camera gun portion at the end of each unit can be launched and is connected to the unit's main body by a retractable wire. Deploying the camera gun makes it possible to search for enemies and collect intelligence over a wide area.
  • Dummy Balloon
Along with mines, an unknown number of dummy balloons are stored in the containers mounted on the leg hardpoints. Like the mines, these dummy balloons can be used as support equipment when fighting breaks out during the reconnaissance mission or when retreating, contributing greatly to the battle of allied forces.

History[]

In U.C. 0116, F90 Gundam F90 Unit 3 was deployed from the SNRI headquarters equipped with a mix of parts from the R-Type, H-Type, and L-Type. Piloted by Dir Rider, it served as a sniper to stop Zeon Remnants' attack on the Frontier I colony, and shot down several OMS-06RF RF Zaku (Early Type). It then subsequently fought the enemy's OMS-18ERF RF Kämpfer.[2]

Variant[]

  • F90 Gundam F90 HLR Type
Featured in the manga Mobile Suit Gundam F90: Fastest Formula, it is the Gundam F90 Unit 3 equipped with parts from the H-Type, L-Type, and R-Type Mission Packs. Used during the Zeon Remnants' surprise attack on Side 4 Frontier I colony, the R-Type's Stealth Armor allows the F90 to be "invisible" on radar, while the the L-Type's Long Rifle enable it to snipe enemy MS from afar with little to no one realizing where the shot came from. Lastly, the pair of Beam Pistols from the H-Type are in case the mobile suit has to engage in close combat.[3]
