The F90J Gundam F90 Jacket Type (F90J ガンダムF90ジャケットタイプ F90J Gandamu F90 Jaketto Taipu?), aka Gundam F90 J-Type, is a variant of the F90 Gundam F90 featured in the F90 A to Z PROJECT.

Technology & Combat Characteristics[]

The J (Jacket) Type is a variety of Mission Pack developed for the Gundam F90, and is comprised of additional armor parts with the aim of increasing armaments and strengthening defense power. It was developed as an experiment based on the "FSWS Plan", a mobile suit reinforcement project that was carried out during the One Year War, and is a full armor specification with various parts of the unit covered in additional armor. As for its arming, it is equipped with a variety of firearms, including a beam cannon extending from its backpack, in addition to missiles over its left shoulder, a double beam gun on its right arm and a machine cannon with excellent rapid-fire performance on its chest.[1]

Because of the feedback provided, the machine cannon would later become a fixed armament for the F91. The beam saber, which is standard equipment for the F90, has been moved from the backpack to the increased armor attached to the left arm, allowing it to be used without the use of a manipulator. This made it easier to respond to sudden close quarters combat.[1]

In addition, as a countermeasure for the increased weight due to the Mission Pack equipment, a small Minovsky craft is equipped on each leg unit. However, it did not do enough to compensate for the high maneuverability that is characteristic of the F90, and it seems that the trials did not produce any significant results.[1]

Armaments[]

  • 60mm Vulcan Gun
A pair of shell-firing weapon built into the head. Though not powerful, its high rate of fire meant it was employed to intercept enemy missiles/units, as warning shots, and to destroy lightly armored targets.
  • Beam Cannon
A beam cannon equipped on the right side of the backpack. It is stowed behind the back when not in use, but pivots up over the shoulder to fire.
  • Missile Launcher
A small 5-tube missile pod mounted on the side of the backpack, behind the left shoulder.
  • Chest Machine Cannon
A pair of machine cannons mounted in the chest armor. They have a high rate of fire and are stronger than the vulcan guns, capable of damaging enemy MS in close combat.
  • Double Beam Gun
A double-barreled beam gun equipped on the right forearm.
  • Beam Saber
The beam saber is a small device powered by a rechargeable energy capacitor. It emits high-energy Minovsky particles to form a blade-shaped I-field (via manipulation of electromagnetic fields), and then fills this I-field shell with superheated Minovsky particle plasma to produce an effective cutting blade. The Gundam F90 has two beam sabers, but they are stored in the left forearm's armor in the J-Type configuration, instead of on the backpack, making them usable without the manipulators to respond more quickly in the event of sudden close combat.

Special Equipment & Features[]

  • Minovsky Craft
Small Minovsky craft devices are incorporated into the leg armor in an attempt to counteract the dramatic weight increase and overall reduction in mobility of the J-Type Mission Pack. During testing they were deemed insufficient to make up for the losses in maneuverability.[1]
  • 8000 Series Neurocomputer
A fifth-generation Non-Von Neumann computer that is the main control computer of the F90. It was installed due to the need for a powerful computing system to control a high performance machine. Besides controlling the mobile suit, it can control all the Mission Packs as well. It is the first MS-based computer to have a holo-cube processing system with more than one million synaptic processors, but it cannot be programmed in the usual way, so a pseudo-personality knowledge base is configured on the processors, and it is programmed by synaptic connections through repeated simulations against a learning computer installed with data of past mobile suit battles.

Notes & Trivia[]

  • F90 J-Type is an homage to the FA-78-1 Full Armor Gundam, this was shown by the Full Armor design of the J pack
    • Despite the Full Armor equipment usually equipped with Missiles throughout the full armor part, F90 J-Type does not have it aside from the left shoulder part.
    • This mission pack is a contradictionary upgrade to the F90 Gundam F90, since the said Gundam main emphasis was on high mobility but the J-Type was the opposite.
