The F90C Gundam F90 Coldness Type (F90C ガンダムF90コールドネスタイプ F90C Gandamu F90 Kōrudonesu Taipu?) (aka Gundam F90 C-Type) is a variant of the F90 Gundam F90 featured in the F90 A to Z PROJECT.

Technology & Combat Characteristics[]

The C (Coldness) Type is one of the Mission Packs for localized combat, and is specifically designed for operation in cold climates. The most distinctive feature is the foldable ski unit that is attached using the hardpoints on the legs. Compared to the H-Type mission pack, which enables hover travel, its maneuverability in areas with heavy snowfall has been greatly improved, making it possible to move and glide smoothly even on hard snowfields and frozen ground. In addition, the skis can be folded in areas where it is difficult to glide, allowing the unit to be worn while walking.[1][2]

Similarly, as a measure against cold climates, the ski unit, lower back, and shoulders are equipped with additional heating units to protect against the cold. The heat emitted from the unit had the effect of preventing snow adhering to the armor and joints from freezing, minimizing any reduction in maneuverability. In addition, a mantle hanging down from the heater unit on the shoulders, to cover the upper body, ensures that heat is distributed efficiently. This allows the F90 to demonstrate its true combat power even in cold regions.[1]

Armaments[]

  • 60mm Vulcan Gun
A pair of shell-firing weapon built into the head. Though not powerful, its high rate of fire meant it was employed to intercept enemy missiles/units, as warning shots, and to destroy lightly armored targets.
  • Beam Saber
The beam saber is a small device held in the mobile suit's hands when deployed and powered by a rechargeable energy capacitor. It emits high-energy Minovsky particles to form a blade-shaped I-field, and then fills this I-field shell with super-heated Minovsky particle plasma to produce an effective cutting blade. The F90 has two beam sabers stored in recharge racks on the backpack.
  • Beam Rifle
The standard Beam Rifle of the Gundam F90, it has more power than other contemporary beam rifles. It uses an E-pack system, and the E-pack inserted into the back of the rifle becomes the gunstock. Spare E-packs can be carried on the side skirt's hardpoints, but the beam rifle cannot be stowed on the rear skirt's weapon rack in the C-Type configuration because it is occupied by parts of the Heater Unit.

Special Equipment & Features[]

  • Hardpoint
The F90 has eleven hardpoints for mounting the Mission Packs. The C-Type mission pack occupies seven of these hardpoints, leaving four free to mount additional equipment, such as spare E-packs for the beam rifle or other weaponry. These hardpoints are covered when not in use.
  • Ski Unit
A feature of the C-Type mission pack, these mobile suit-sized skis are mounted to the hardpoints on the sides of the legs. They enable it to glide over sufficiently snowy and frozen terrain with propulsion provided by the F90's thrusters. The skis can be rotated out from underneath the feet on a pivoting arm, and can fold to be held in front of the legs when not needed.
  • Heater Unit
A component of the C-Type Mission Pack, the Heater Unit occupies the Gundam F90's weapon rack on its rear skirt armor. It is connected to large radiators that occupy the hardpoints on the tops of the shoulders and front skirt armor, to which it is connected by flexible hoses. The heat produced by this system keeps ice from forming on the joints of the F90C, which would hinder its performance otherwise.
  • Mantle
A simple cloak held in place by the equipment occupying the shoulder hardpoints, it covers only a small portion of the Gundam F90's shoulders, upper torso and backpack. It is intended to better hold in the heat produced by the heater unit to increase its effectiveness.
  • 8000 Series Neurocomputer
A fifth-generation Non-Von Neumann computer that is the main control computer of the F90. It was installed due to the need for a powerful computing system to control a high performance machine. Besides controlling the mobile suit, it can control all the Mission Packs as well. It is the first MS-based computer to have a holo-cube processing system with more than one million synaptic processors, but it cannot be programmed in the usual way, so a pseudo-personality knowledge base is configured on the processors, and it is programmed by synaptic connections through repeated simulations against an learning computer installed with data of past mobile suit battles.

History[]

Mobile Suit Gundam F90: Fastest Formula[]

In. U.C. 0122, a Gundam F90 Unit 1 and its C-Type mission pack were assigned to the Garuda Class Garwish, during the Second Oldsmobile War. Piloted by Bergh Scred. The Gundam F90 C-Type fought the Oldsmobile Forces in a snowy mountains, defeated many of the enemy MS such as OMS-09RF RF Dom Cold Climate Type and rescued a squad of RGM-89J Jegan Normal Type ambushed by the Oldsmobile forces.[3]
