Ewen Bader (ユーイン・バーダー) is a character from the Advance of Zeta: The Traitor to Destiny light novel series.
History[]
Lieutenant Commander Ewen Bader was a mobile suit pilot and officer dispatched from Gryps HQ and assigned to the Nicosia to monitor Lieutenant Commander Gisele Albert and Captain Hewitt Reines, both of whom possessed classified knowledge regarding the 30 Bunch Incident.
A notorious hedonist with no regard for decency, Bader’s personal motto was "Enjoy & Excite", and he treated mobile suit combat as nothing more than a game to "rack up points." Though considered a top ace since the One Year War, he earned the nickname “fun-loving criminal” due to his reckless disregard for orders and frequent use of his allies as shields in battle. Regular soldiers despised him, but he was idolized by subordinates who shared his worldview. His record during the One Year War was 2 warships and 21 mobile suits destroyed, and during the Delaz Conflict, 1 warship and 9 mobile suits. These numbers rivaled those of Lieutenant Dellis Hanover, the 8th-ranked ace of the Earth Federation Forces during the One Year War. Notably, during the North American front, he engaged in battle with Volker Merckx, taking Merckx’s leg at the cost of his own arm, which was replaced with a prosthetic.
During the Delaz Conflict, Bader piloted a captured MA-05 Bigro in an attack against the Cima Fleet, ignoring a ceasefire signal. As a result, he was court-martialed and sentenced to life imprisonment, but was later released and recruited into the Titans due to his combat prowess.
In the Battle of New Guinea, Bader received secret orders from Titans High Command to assassinate Captain Reines, which he carried out by shooting down Reines’ RMS-108 Marasai. Afterward, Bader transferred to space and was promoted to captain of the Salamis Kai–class cruiser Tobruk, leading an independent unit directly under Bask Om. There, he engaged in a series of intense battles against Van Asiliaino and his allies.
After the Tobruk was destroyed, Bader survived and was recovered by the cruiser Eretria—but his past caught up with him. Gisele Albert, having learned the truth behind Reines’ murder, shot Bader dead.
