Evidence 01 (エヴィデンス01) is a mysterious fossil introduced in the anime Mobile Suit Gundam SEED.

Overview

Evidence 01 is a fossil of an unknown alien species, found on an asteroid near Europa, the moon orbiting the planet Jupiter by the world's first Coordinator, George Glenn, during his mission to Jupiter aboard his ship, the Tsiolkovsky.

History

George Glenn discovered Evidence 01 in an asteroid in Europa's vicinity. He returned seven years later, along with his discovery. It was taken to a research colony, Zodiac, at Lagrange point 5 and was intensively examined. It was concluded that the fossil was genuine, and that the alien species had intelligence equal or greater to that of Earth’s whales. The reveal of the fossil and the apparent proof of extraterrestrial life caused an uproar on Earth, with many people questioning if extraterrestrials visited the planet. After four decades of research, the origin of Evidence 01 is still unclear. The fossil is located inside the PLANT Supreme Council Building at Aprilius One, the capital of PLANT.

• Evidence 01 was the first instance of extraterrestrial life to appear in the Gundam franchise, though the first living alien would not appear until the beings beyond the transfer gate in the ∀ Gundam: Wind of the Moon manga.
  • The next appearance of extraterrestrial life in a Gundam anime was the ELS in the Mobile Suit Gundam 00 The Movie -A wakening of the Trailblazer-.
• The George Glenn hologram sometimes projects a cartoon version of Evidence 01 circling above his head.
