Ernest McGuire (アーネスト・マクガイア) is a character from the light novel series Advance of Zeta: The Traitor to Destiny.
Background[]
Ernest McGuire is the elder brother of Danica McGuire and the head of a prestigious California military family whose lineage stretches back to before the dawn of the Universal Century. He cherishes Van Asiliaino like a younger brother.
Originally serving as an instructor’s assistant at the military academy where Van and Danica trained, Ernest later joined the Titans, driven by his rigid belief that a soldier's duty is to follow orders above all else. However, after Van and Danica defected and joined the anti-Earth Federation resistance, Ernest found himself assigned to pursue them, operating under Captain Hewitt Reines.
During this period, Ernest encountered the Cyber Newtype Rossweisse, and the two formed a bond. While Ernest initially kept a close watch on her to help stabilize her mental state, their relationship—at first nominal—evolved into one of deep trust, ultimately rooted in Rossweisse’s affection for him.
Promoted from Second Lieutenant to Lieutenant after Reines’ death, Ernest was placed in charge of the mobile suit team aboard the cruiser Eretria. After transferring to space, Rossweisse confessed her feelings to him, and the two officially became lovers. However, her subsequent reconditioning as a Cyber Newtype stripped her of all emotions except for a singular obsession with Ernest. Desperate to reclaim her lost self, Ernest grew increasingly consumed by the promise he made to Commander Nishizawa—to take the head of the Gundam Kestrel. He became the pilot of the ORX-009 Gundam [Sköll] .
In the final stages of the Gryps Conflict, Nishizawa ordered a nuclear strike on Earth, with Rossweisse boarding the ORX-007 [Hati] to carry out the attack. But Ernest, unable to allow the plan to go through, turned against his commander. He destroyed the Hati and, overcome with despair, attempted a double suicide with Rossweisse inside the Gundam Sköll. However, thanks to Van’s quick thinking and the resonance through the Shaman Frame, Rossweisse regained her mind, stopping the suicide attempt. Van's timely intervention saved both their lives.
After the war, Ernest and Rossweisse relocated to Mars, living under the alias Nigel Armstrong in Mariner City, where Ernest became the right-hand man to the city's mayor.
