The Dueling Committee is a faction from Mobile Suit Gundam the Witch from Mercury. It is a student-run organization that manages the duels at the Asticassia School of Technology. The rule is that all duels must be carried out in the presence of the Dueling Committee [2].
Duels[]
“ | The rules say that when you lose, you apologize like a grovelling worm. | ” |
—Guel Jeturk after defeating Parker Eastcott., [1] |
At the school, personal combat is conducted between students using mobile suits. The participants fight with something they each desire, such as money or honor, at stake [3].
A duel is not necessarily held on equal terms, and it is tacitly accepted that students receive indirect help such as the provision of MS and support members depending on their financial resources and personal connections [4]
Locations[]
Duels are usually fought in one of the thirteen tactical testing sectors at the Front [1]. Duels can also be fought outside the Front [5]. Inspecting the testing sector is also the job of the Dueling Committe [6].
Codes[]
One-on-one[]
The most common code is the one-on-one where the winner is the first one to break the blade antenna of their opponent's mobile suit [3]. If a mobile suit has more than one blade antenna, only one needs to be broken off (this also applies to the other codes, below) [5].
Three-on-one[]
In the three-on-one code the solo pilot's winning condition is to break the blade antenna of all three of their opponents [6].
Team Battle[]
Multi-member team battle where victory is determined by breaking the blade antenna of a team leader [7].
Serial Battle[]
One duelist must hold out in an endurance match against multiple opponents, one at a time [8].
Battle Royale[]
When a contestant's blade antenna is broken, they're eliminated and the last pilot standing is the victor [9].
Procedure[]
- Party A challenges party B to a duel. Should party B accept, the challenge is taken to the committee.
- In the committee's lounge, an available committee member is selected as an observer, who referees the duel.
- The observer stands in front of the lounge's screen with party A standing to the observer's right and party B to the observer's left.
- The observer says "Both parties, deposit your souls on Libra's scales." followed by the names of the duelists. They then state what the location will be and what code will apply. Afterwards, they ask the parties if they have any objections.
- If there are no objections, the observer asks party B for their stake in the duel and then asks party A for the same.
- Once both stakes are made clear, the observer says "Alea iacta est. The duel is approved." and clasps their hands.
- The parties board their respective mobile suits.
- Party B states their student number, name. and mobile suit. Party A then states the same.
- The observer says "Both parties, face off."
- Party B says "Victory is never decided by mobile suit performance alone."
- Party A says "Nor by the skill of the pilot, alone."
- Both parties say "The result itself is only the truth!" together.
- The observer says "Fix release."
- The duel begins and continues until a winning condition is satisfied.
Additional Rules[]
- All mobile suits must install and use the campus Beam Regulation Program to lower the output of all beam weaponry [9].
- Beams can still damage mobile suits, but direct shots are less damaging.
- While excess damage to mobile suits is allowed, aiming or attacking the cockpit is strictly prohibited [9].
- Terrain and combat stipulations are set by the Commitee independent of the participants [5].
- Changes in the terrain and environment during a duel must be adapted to by the duelists, even if an outside party is altering them [4].
Rumble Ring[]
The Rumble Ring is an annual event held by the Asticassia School of Technology during the Open Campus, where the current students of the school can partake in a battle royale-styled mock battle to showcase both their companies' mobile suits and their personal talent. The Holder during that period is required to participate[8], though since the event is an exhibition, losing will not result in the lost of the Holder status[9].
Holder[]
The Holder is a status and title that students can attain through the duels, and it represents them as the top duelist in the school. As opposed to needing the best overall record, anyone can obtain the Holder status by prevailing over the current one in a duel. The student who is the current Holder wears a white-based uniform and pilot suit as evidence [10].While a Holder's matches can be delayed, they must eventually face all prospective challengers [8].
The Holder becomes the fiancée of the chairman's daughter, Miorine Rembran [1], upon her seventeenth birthday. The Holder also gains access to reserve the Dueling Committee room for their own events and use [11].

Notes & Trivia[]
- The phrase the observer says, "Alea iacta est" is Latin for "The die is cast" and is historically famous for being the phrase Julius Caesar said when he crossed the Rubicon to invade Rome. It's commonly attributed to imply fate has been set, whatever will happen is going to happen, and that conflict is now inevitable.
