The Dublin Colony Drop is a conflict of the First Neo Zeon War, featured in the anime Mobile Suit Gundam ZZ.

Prelude[]

On October 31st, UC 0088, Neo Zeon began a colony drop on Dublin, Ireland, as a "show of force and intimidation" against the Earth Federation. While it was clear that the operation would result in high civilian causalities, the Earth Federation officials chose to remain silent about this. An official of the Federation government even said that it would be better to lose the civilian lives than the government.[1] Despite this, not everyone was willing to let this go. The remaining powers of the A.E.U.G. and Karaba, spurred on by the recovering Kamille Bidan and his caretaker Fa Yuiry set course for Dublin with the desire to save as many people as possible. While Fa attempted to get Kamille away from the colony drop in Glasgow, she also overhears a number of Federation officials declare that the A.E.U.G. would be wiped out with the colony drop, ending the war and causing food prices to drop.

The Battle[]

With more than an hour to go before the colony fell on Dublin, Rakan Dahkaran took the lead, firing on a ship holding refugees and destroying it with his AMX-011 Zaku III. This action caught the attention of the A.E.U.G, who launched the Gundam Team with the MSZ-006 Zeta Gundam, MSZ-010 ΖΖ Gundam and a Dodai Kai. Hayato Kobayashi, who had stayed behind to help coordinate the evacuation, hopped in with his own Dodai Kai joined by a RGM-86R GM III, the latter being knocked off and destroyed. When a group of AMX-009 Dreissen attempted to pincer Hayato's Dodai, Judau Ashta in the ZZ's Neo Core Fighter shot down the Dreissen before it could drop down on the carrier.[1]

With an hour left, Bright Noa ordered the Gundam Team to fall back, but the group refused with a number of enemies still around. Rakan lead a group towards the Audhumla intending on shooting it down, but he turned his attention to the Double Zeta components as Judau decided to combine into the Double Zeta Gundam to finish off the fight. Rakan lept off his Base Jabber to grab Judau's Core Fighter, only to be shot by Hayato's Dodai. Rakan, in turn, shot the Dodai. The action allowed the Double Zeta to form, but the damage was too much and the Dodai Kai exploded, killing Hayato. In grief, Judai unleashed the Double Zeta's firepower on the remaining Neo Zeon forces.[1] Despite finding and confronting Rakan, it was too late - the colony finally dropped from the sky, obliterating the city, the deaths of those unable to escape affecting the bedridden Elpeo Ple as they were wiped out. The Gundam Team survived the drop, though the shockwaves sent them flying.[1] Though the colony had impacted with the planet's surface, it did not explode as Island Iffish had when it landed on Sydney Australia in U.C. 0079, sparing the impact site the same fate.

Judau was the first to stand up, only for him to be temporarily overwhelmed by the psionic remnants of the civilians killed in the drop before Kamille's voice snapped him out in time for dodge an attack by Rakan. At the same time, Ple Two was sent to Dublin in the reconstructed MRX-010 Psycho Gundam Mk-II to finish off the Argama. Judau, Ple and Kamille could feel her presence coming with Ple joining the Argama bridge crew to help try and shoot down the approaching Mobile Armor. Their shot only damaged the wing of the machine and Ple Two retaliated with a scattershot that damaged one of the Argama's catapults. Realizing it needed to be dealt with, the sick and weakened Ple took command of her partially disassembled AMX-004 Qubeley Mk-II and flew out on a Flying Armor to confront her clone.

Not realizing who the other was, the two girls were evenly matched in battle, even with the Qubeley's funnels being destroyed by the Psycho Gundam Mk-II's reflector bits. Even an attempt to attack with the beam saber proved ineffective. Having driven off Rakan, Judau came to Ple's aid, watching in shock as the Psycho Gundam Mk-II transformed into its Mobile Suit form. Telling Ple to head back to the Argama, Judau lured the Psycho Gundam towards the colony, but found his suit overwhelmed by its sheer power. When Ple Two captured the Double Zeta, Judau was able to damage it with its missiles, but tossing the two back onto the ground.

Despite all this, the Psycho Gundam was still undamaged. Even worse, the Double Zeta lost its beam power, rendering it helpless before the Mobile Armor. Before Judau could be killed, Ple flew in, slamming the Flying Armor against the Psycho Gundam and blocking its beam shots with her Newtype powers. At that point, Ple recognized who she was facing - Ple Two was herself, only with her most violent traits. With the last bits of life, she redirected the beam energy onto the reflector bits and back at the Psycho Gundam, destroying the Qubeley and taking Ple's life, but severely damaging the Psycho Gundam. In a rage, Judau's Newtype powers were unleashed, creating a blade of psychic energy through the Large Beam Saber and slashing at the Mobile Armor, forcing Ple Two to eject the head before the suit exploded. Judau gave chase, but when he slashed at the cockpit door, he was shocked to see Ple sitting there, draining himself of all will to fight and landing in the ocean.

Aftermath[]

In the aftermath, the Federation government ceded Side 3 to Haman, deeply angering both the Earth Federation military and AEUG officers.[2]
