Dublin is a location in the Universal Century timeline. It first appears in Mobile Suit Gundam ZZ.

Overview[]

Dublin was a city on the island of Ireland that served as its capital since the 12th century AD.

History[]

Almost immediately after the Gryps Conflict ended in early U.C. 0088, the First Neo Zeon War broke out and Neo Zeon forces captured the city of Dakar, the capital of the Earth Federation. A small number of Federation politicians and military officials managed to escape Dakar in advance of the occupation and secretly rendezvoused in Dublin, where they took up residence at an estate named Beech Mansion and continued to run the government and Earth Federation Forces from there.

Months later, in October of U.C. 0088, Captain Bright Noa directed the Argama from Africa to Dublin in order to meet with Federation leadership and protest their plans to sue for peace by formally turning over control of Side 3 to Neo Zeon and ordering EFF troops to disarm. Bright was convinced this plan would only embolden Haman Karn's ambitions for conquest rather than end the war, but his superiors rebuffed his pleas, and he and Judau Ashta were detained in the mansion's basement for insubordination. Neo Zeon forces followed the Argama, however, and launched an indiscriminate raid on Dublin in an effort to provoke a direct battle. Amid the chaos, Beech Mansion was struck by a missile and several Federation officials were killed, but Bright and Judau survived. Blaming the Argama for the attack but lacking the personnel and equipment to bring the ship to heel, the Federation had the mayor of Dublin try to order the Argama to stand down, but Bright ignored this.

Impatient for the Federation's response to her demands and now aware that Dublin was hosting Federation leadership, Haman Karn ordered that a colony be dropped on the city, a brazen act of terrorism that she justified as necessary to intimidate the Federation into submitting. Despite the attempts of the AEUG and Karaba, there was no way to halt the colony drop. Remaining Federation leaders quietly fled Dublin on private planes without informing the public of the imminent attack or sending any forces to organize an evacuation, with some of them cynically reasoning that the colony drop would act as a means of population control. Neo Zeon forces were also deployed to hamper evacuation efforts by destroying planes, ships, bridges, roadways, and even random buildings to cause chaos and maximize the colony drop's casualties, all to demonstrate Neo Zeon's resolve. In response, the Argama and Karaba took it upon themselves to evacuate Dublin, with the Gundam Team covering the operation. During the battle with the Neo Zeon forces under Glemy Toto, Karaba leader Hayato Kobayashi was killed in the firefight with Neo Zeon Ace Rakan Dahkaran.

Ultimately, the evacuation was partially successful. There was no way of evacuating the whole population of Dublin, but several thousand people were able to survive after being put onto Karaba's flagship, the Audhumla. When the colony dropped, it flattened everything in Dublin and created earthquakes and eruptions in the area. However, the area was spared the fate of Sydney, Australia, which had been destroyed in the One Year War, since the colony did not explode on impact, but gradually fell apart, which limited the damage. Additionally, the shockwave killed the Karaba pilots on board the Audhumla, but the members of the Gundam team, minus Judau Ashta, boarded the plane and safely took control before it crashed, saving the civilians on board.
