The Dodai II (ド・ダイII Dodai II?) is a transport aircraft that appeared in OVA Mobile Suit Gundam: The 08th MS Team.
Technology & Combat Characteristics[]
Developed as a successor to the Dodai YS, the Dodai II was redesigned with the assumption that it would be used in conjunction with an MS, its main wings were changed to extend from the upper nacelles rather than from the fuselage, and the shape was similar to the so-called high-wing type with the main wings above the fuselage (center of gravity), but this shape was advantageous in terms of stability.[1]
On the other hand, the frontal missile launchers from Dodai YS were abolished, giving Dodai II a stronger character as an MS carrier. The Dodai II was generally operated as a sub-flight system (SFS) with MS mounted on the upper surface of the fuselage, but it was also possible to connect wires to the lower surface to suspend and transport MS and other equipment.[2] Two of these aircraft can transport huge machines such as the Apsaras, and its payload is very large.[1] In addition, while the Dodai II was piloted, its controls could be transferred to the MS riding atop it just like the Dodai YS.[3]

- A 2-barrel machine gun turret was mounted behind the cockpit of Dodai II, which could be used primarily for self-defense.
History[]
Since the Dodai II was deployed near the end of the One Year War and only produced in small numbers, it failed to achieve the same results as its predecessor.[4] Its known operational records included the flight tests of the prototype mobile armor Apsaras I in later half of UC 0079, when a couple of Dodai IIs were used to suspend and transport the Apsaras to the test airspace.[5]

In UC 0096, a Dodai II was seen carrying MS-08TX/S Efreet Schneid during Zeon Remnants' attack at EFF's Torrington Base.[6]

- Despite Dodai II's lack of aerial attack/bombing ability, it was still officially classified as a bomber in addition to its main role as SFS.[2][1]
