The Daedalus Lunar Base is a moon base which appears in the series Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Destiny.

History

Built at an unknown point of time after the First Alliance-PLANT War, the Daedalus base was one of two OMNI Enforcer moon base active during the Second Alliance-PLANT War besides the Arzachel lunar base. Unlike the Arzachel base and the former Ptolemaeus lunar base, the Daedalus base was located on the dark side of the moon, in the Daedalus crater. The base was the location of the powerful Requiem superweapon.

Near the end of the Second Alliance-PLANT War, Lord Djibril, the last remaining member of the secret society Logos, moved there from Orb Union after ZAFT's invasion of Orb. Djibril intended to use Requiem to destroy the PLANT capital Aprilius One. Due to Yzak Jule team's attack on one of Requiem's beam deflection stations, however, the attack missed, destroying several other PLANTs instead.

Unbeknownst to Djibril, PLANT chairman Gilbert Durandal knew about his plan in advance, and has already moved to Mobile Space Fortress Messiah. While the ZAFT lunar orbit fleet, led by the Gondwana, engaged Alliance forces at the first relay station, Durandal ordered Minerva to attack the base and destroy the Requiem.

The arrival of the Minerva caught the base personnel off-guard, but they soon deployed a large number of mobile suits and mobile armors to defend the base, including multiple GFAS-X1 Destroy Gundams. However, they proved no match against Shinn Asuka's Destiny Gundam and Rey Za Burrel's Legend Gundam. While the two took on most of the Alliance mobile weapons, the ZGMF-X56S/γ Blast Impulse Gundam, piloted by Lunamaria Hawke, reached the Requiem control room through a test pit near the base and destroyed it, preventing it from firing. At the same time, the Destiny Gundam detonated several Nelson-class ships in the spaceport. The resulting explosion destroyed the command room, killing the base's command staff. Djibril attempted to escape aboard the Girty Lue, but he was intercepted by the Legend Gundam, which obliterated the ship's bridge with its beam spikes, instantly killing him.

The Daedalus base eventually fell into ZAFT's hands and Durandal used the Requiem cannon to destroy the Earth Alliance's last remaining stronghold in space, the Arzachel base, killing the president of the Atlantic Federation in the process. He then planned to use Requiem to destroy any country on Earth which planned to oppose his Destiny Plan, beginning with Orb. Before he could fire Requiem again, the Three Ships Alliance was able to destroy Requiem and with Durandal's death, the Second Alliance-PLANT War came to an end. What happened to the Daedalus base afterwards remains unknown.
