Crisis at Side 2 is the 29th episode of Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam.
Summary[]
The Titans decide to gas a colony in order to bring the Spacenoids to their knees and presumably end the Gryps Conflict in their favor. Jerid is picked to lead the team that will gas the colony, but they are thwarted by the AEUG before they have a chance to release the G3. The mayor of the colony is confronted and questioned by some of the Argama's crew members regarding his attempt to surrender to the Titans to prevent the colony's gassing.
Plot[]
Near the Moon, the Argama is flying away, as the Radish is loading the Hyaku Shiki into the Suit Carrier. On the Radish bridge, Captain Bekkener calls Lieutenant Quattro Bajeena in the carrier to say that Captain Bright is sorry he can't take Quattro to Von Braun city. Quattro calls back to say never mind him, everyone needs to watch Side 2, the Titans are trying to attack it. Bekkener says that they won't let them.
In the hangar, technicians are working, and Katz is handing out lunches. He sees Emma Sheen and gives her a lunch too. She asks if he had a chance to say goodbye to Lieutenant Quattro, and he hadn't. He says that Quattro had said we have important work to do, and shouldn't waste time worrying. She says Katz doesn't know when he'll see Quattro again. Katz leaves, and Emma wonders what happened to get Katz so grown up.
On the Radish bridge, a crewman announces that the Suit Carrier is taking off. Captain Bekkener calls Lieutenant Quattro to say he's on his own, and Quattro replies: take care of Side 2. The Carrier takes off and flies towards the moon. Katz looks out a window at it as it passes.
On the Argama bridge, a crewman asks if they should follow Hyaku Shiki on the monitor, but Captain Bright says no; he tells the crewman to go get some sleep, there's nobody to replace him if he gets sick. Samarn has a message from Von Braun City: Sweetwater says that the battleship Alexandria was seen flying from Side 7 to Side 2, and they made contact with a supply vessel carrying G3 Gas. Bright is alarmed, that's deadlier than cyanide, it would be terrible if they used it against a colony.
In the Argama hangar, as technicians are working on suits, Kamille Bidan, Ensign Reccoa, Apolly Bay greet each other. Apolly says his Rick Dias should be ready soon, and Kamille says everyone's working themselves to death maintaining the suits. Kamille looks around and asks where Fa Yuiry is, and CPO Astonaige says she's off looking after the children, it's OK. Kamille says it's not OK, and he dashes away.
Kamille finds the two kids running naked through the hallway; as they run around him, Fa appears in a doorway, wearing only panties. Fa calls to Kamille to get the kids back in the room, they've escaped from a bath. Fa reappears with a robe on, and gets them back into the bath. Kamille studiously avoids looking at Fa. Fa asks him to tell Reccoa she'll be there soon. Kamille offers, he could help with the next bath; she playfully declines.
The battleship Alexandria flies through space. In an assembly room, Jerid Messa addresses a roomful of mobile suit pilots, with Captain Gady Kinsey at his side. Jerid announces that he is in charge of the mobile suit team for the assault on Side 2. There's a disturbance from the door, Yazan Gable and some supporters try to get in, but Captain Gady chases them out, since Yazan refused to join the operation. Resuming the briefing, Jerid says that their goal is to shorten the conflict by destroying one colony and forcing AEUG to surrender. Mouar Pharaoh objects that the gas they will use violates a treaty, but Jerid says that, since the Titans control Federation forces, treaties are void. Captain Gady announces that, during this, Gryps will prepare to attack Granada.
In the Side 2 Colony 1 control room, officials report to the Mayor that all colonies are doing well, with no signs of Titan intrusion. The Mayor gets on the phone to an AEUG battleship outside, and asks how the AEUG expects to protect Side 2 with only a few battleships. The ship captain says that there are reinforcements coming. The Mayor says that maybe they should become allies of the Titans, but the ship captain says they'll protect Side 2. The Mayor slams down the phone and asks a technician to contact the Titan ship.
Control room personnel detect a rock approaching Side 2, but as they watch, it breaks apart to reveal a ship inside, the Alexandria. The technicians say it is approaching Colony 35. The Alexandria deck has mobile suits, accompanying a big blue cylinder. The Alexandria opens fire on the AEUG ship near Side 2.
On the Alexandria bridge, technicians report hits on the AEUG ship. Captain Gady asks what enemy suits are in sight, and is told that there are six, ordinary models. The Captain orders out Jerid's gas unit. The mobile suits launch, carrying the blue cylinder.
Technicians in the Side 2 control room say they've lost contact with the AEUG battleship, and there seem to be enemy mobile suits approaching Colony 25. The Mayor orders them to contact the Titans to surrender. One technician objects, the Titans are the ones attacking us right now. The Mayor's aide gets out a pistol and shoots the objecting technician. The Mayor repeats that they are surrendering to the Titans.
Alexandria receives a message from Colony 1: they request to negotiate. The Captain says they can't just surrender, the Titans have to show that resisting them has serious consequences. He declares that the Minkovsky particles were too dense, and Alexandria didn't receive that communication.
On the Argama bridge, Captain Bright asks if battle has started, and the crew there reports flashes. Also, they detect that the Titans and the colony are trying to communicate, even though the colony is under attack. Bright sends out Zeta and Methuss, with the other mobile suits on standby.
Outside Side 2, the Titan mobile suits guide the blue cylinder against the habitat's hull. Another group of mobile suits, led by Jerid, attack the mobile suits guarding it.
The Side 2 control room operators report that the gas cylinder is attached to Colony 25; they say they can shoot at it from nearby colonies, but the Mayor vetoes that, the fire would damage other colonies. He orders the operator to contact the Titans again. The scan operator reports two AEUG mobile suits approaching, and then another reports the Argama approaching.
Zeta Gundam and Methuss approach the habitat and see the Alexandria; they begin firing at it, to no great effect, and Alexandria responds by launching mobile suits of its own. Kamille and Fa agree the real threat is to the colony, so they fly off towards it, with the Titan suits in pursuit. The Argama launches its remaining mobile suits, and the Radish follows suit.
Kamille and Fa get to where the G3 cylinder is, and shoot at the suits guarding it. Jerid and Mouar fight them, and draw them away from the G3 cylinder. The fight between the four of them moves off into other parts of the habitat. They duck into colony areas under construction, then back out into space.
Captain Bekkener calls Emma and says to go after the G3. She and Katz lead the charge there. Katz is the first to find the G3 cylinder; he shoots and destroys it.
Kamille and Jerid have still been fighting, and Mouar shows up and attacks Kamille. When Fa joins in, Jerid calls Mouar and calls her off. Jerid and Mouar break off the fight and escape.
As they return to their ships, Kamille thanks Katz for saving him. Kamille asks if Katz felt something, a pressure from something crooked? Katz says he did, his stomach hurt. Kamille says that's what a battlefield feels like, remember it.
In the Argama locker room, Apolly notices that Kamille looks beat, and Kamille says he nearly died out there. Apolly is now dressed in ordinary clothes, and says he's going off to Colony 1 to be Captain Bright's bodyguard. Kamille invites himself along, as the Argama enters the Side 2 dock.
In the Side 2 control room, the technician who was shot before is back, with a bandage, and the Mayor is bandying excuses: he was only concerned about the citizens, and the aide didn't really mean to fire his gun, and his gun was supposed to have only blanks anyway, so anyway there's no reason for the tech to talk about this incident, and we'll call it an accident, and there'll be a bonus in it for him. At this point, the group from Argama arrives: Captain Bright, Kamille, and Apolly. They all notice the tech's bandages as the tech goes out.
Bright asks about the transmission the colony sent to the Titans, and the Mayor says it was a traitor on the staff, the tech who just left was injured stopping him, but it's no big deal, we were under the threat of that poison gas anyway. Bright says he's fine with that, but the Mayor should remember, even if they get a temporary peace with the Titans, eventually he and his citizens will face consequences.
