The Corner Family (コーナー家 Kōnā-ke?) refers to a family clan whose members served as observers of the Celestial Being, but are secretly trying to sabotage the organization's plan in pursuit of world domination.

Overview[]

The Corner Family held the position of Celestial Being observers for generations but have also secretly planned to betray the organization and take over the world.[1][2] A golden opportunity for their ambitions arose 80 years before the Gundams' armed interventions when a team belonging to the family, in guise as a UN exploration team, retrieved a purple Haro from the Europa, a desolate research vessel at Jupiter.[3][2] The Haro contained valuable design information on the GN Drives, giving the family the opportunity to build their own version, which became known as the GN Drive Tau.[2]

The creation of GN Drive Tau brought forth the development of the Corners' GN Drive Tau-powered mobile suits and the training of pilots to operate them. The Corners' ambition inspired a vision of a hero that would be revered by the world after defeating the Celestial Being and its Gundams. It is because of this that family heir Alejandro Corner was also trained to be a mobile suit pilot besides being educated in political science.[2]

Alejandro eventually became head of the family, posing both as a UN Ambassador and a Celestial Being observer. Alejandro hired mercenary Ali al-Saachez to do his dirty work behind the scenes. By forming an alliance with another observer, Laguna Harvey of the Linear Train Industries, the Corner family was able to manufacture the three Gundam Thrones and 30 GN-Xs.[4] Alejandro was also assisted by Innovade Ribbons Almark. Through researching Ribbons' genetic traits, Alejandro created his own group of Gundam Meisters, the Team Trinity.[4] With pieces at his disposal, Alejandro began his plan of destroying Celestial Being in A.D. 2307 to fulfill his family's century-old dream.

History[]

Celestial Being, with their Gundams, declared their intention to eradicate warfare in A.D. 2307. Alejandro Corner and Ribbons Almark observed the situation and bid their time before striking.

During Azadistan's economic, political and energy crisis, Alejandro decided to choose the country for the United Nations to help build their Solar Energy Receptor Facility. Alejandro would later comment that he made the move to see the world move forward with his own eyes; he saw the country as one of those who had a chance to change for the better or plunge into destruction. At the height of political tensions between the conservatives and the reformist party of Azadistan, Alejandro ordered Ali al-Saachez and his men to attack the conservative party and kidnapped Rasa Massoud Rachmadi to incite a civil war. This civil war was later temporarily brought to an end by the return of Rasa to Azadistan through Celestial Being's armed intervention.

During the Gundam Capture Operation in Taklamakan Desert, Alejandro ordered co-conspirator Laguna Harvey to send out Team Trinity and save the Gundam Meisters.[5][6][7] Alejandro later called the rest of Celestial Being Observers and convinced them to acknowledge Team Trinity as legitimate members of Celestial Being.[6] Afterwards, Team Trinity attacked multiple military establishments around the world.[3][7] Their main purpose was to send the three blocs - the AEU, HRL and Union - to the brink of military collapse.[8] Due to the brutality of their operations and the civilian casualties they left in their wake, they also increased the world's resentment against Celestial Being.[2]

Due to the nature of Team Trinity's armed interventions, the Ptolemaios Team's Gundam Meisters eventually decided to label Team Trinity as a source of conflict.[7][9] As the two teams fought, Alejandro put the next stage of his plan into action. Somewhere in Antarctica, 30 GNX-603T GN-Xs were unveiled to representatives from the three blocs, and Laguna subsequently distributed them equally to the three blocs.[9] With their new mobile suits, the three blocs formed an alliance under the United Nations, the new United Nations Forces, to destroy Celestial Being.[8] After this, Alejandro ordered Ali to dispose of Laguna and Team Trinity as they were no longer useful to him.[10][11]

While these events transpired, Alejandro, through Ribbons, acquired the main terminal of Veda.[8] During the UN Forces' first attack on the CBS-70 Ptolemaios, Alejandro cut off Veda's support to the Gundams.[10] However, Celestial Being tactician Sumeragi Lee Noriega had foreseen this and activated the Gundams' Stand-Alone Operating System. Upon gaining access to Veda's Level 7 data, Alejandro also acquired the cryogenic container of Aeolia Schenberg, founder of the Celestial Being.[11] While watching Team Trinity's demise, Alejandro shot and killed Aeolia in deep sleep.[11] However, this triggered a system trap which deleted the Gundam Meisters' data from Veda and unlocked the Trans-Am System in the original GN Drives.[11]

Due to the UN Forces' devastating loses against the Gundams during a subsequent battle in Lagrange 1, Alejandro decided to sortie in his mobile armor, the GNMA-XCVII Alvatore, so as to defeat the Gundams himself.[12] With the Alvatore, Alejandro managed to deal heavy damage to two of the three remaining Gundams and the CBS-70 Ptolemaios.[12] However, the Alvatore was sunk by the GN-001+GNR-001E GN Armor Type-E, forcing Alejandro to continue the fight with the GNMS-XCVII Alvaaron, a mobile suit hidden within the mobile armor.[1] Alejandro was then defeated and killed in battle by Gundam Meister Setsuna F. Seiei and his GN-001 Gundam Exia.[1]

Nothing is known about the Corner Family after Alejandro's demise. However, some of his plans continued through Ribbons, such as the construction of Memento Mori.[4][13] After the A-Laws' demise in A.D. 2312, Alejandro became a symbol of the corrupted Earth Sphere Federation. In A.D. 2314, he was portrayed in the movie "Celestial Being" as the leader of the A-Laws.[14]
