The Coordinator Revelation is an event from the Cosmic Era, featured in the anime Mobile Suit Gundam SEED

Prelude[]

Prior to the beginning of the Cosmic Era, a team of geneticists had worked on a project to create a human being with enhanced capabilities. The result of the project was George Glenn, a human with physical and mental abilities above that of the average human. George spent his life making great achievements, including becoming an Olympic gold medalist, an ace pilot in the Air Force, and making numerous achievements in aerospace engineering. Eventually, George Glenn designed and built a spaceship that he intended to use for an exploration mission to Jupiter. Before leaving, he decided that he wanted his origins to be revealed to humanity.[1][2]

The Reveal[]

The day he departed for the Jupiter Exploration Mission, George announced the truth of his origins to the entire Earth. He detailed how his genetics were altered when he was a fetus and released information regarding the method of his genetic modification. George named his genetic type “a Coordinator”, intending for “his kind” to help humanity coordinate its future.[1][2]

Aftermath[]

The revelation caused a massive uproar on Earth, with several groups split between pro and anti-Coordinator. One group, Blue Cosmos, loathed the idea of Coordinators, viewing anyone who had their genetics altered as inhuman and an abomination. The group changed from an environmental protection organization to an anti-Coordinator terrorist group, that continued to grow in power for the next several decades.

Due to public confusion regarding Coordinators, international law declared that the method used to create Coordinators was illegal. Despite the illegality, several wealthy individuals secretly arranged to have their unborn children to be put through the Coordinator process. In C.E. 30, the law prohibiting Coordinator creation was overturned and the Coordinator Boom began, with people all around the world making their children Coordinators.

In the C.E. 50's, a group of scientists from GARM R&D sought to enhance the Coordinator process, seeking to eliminate the negative factors that resulted in genetic abnormalities and long-term birth degradation. The Ultimate Coordinator Project saw success on May 18, C.E. 55, with the birth of Kira Yamato, a Coordinator with no genetic abnormalities.[3]
