The Chivvay Kai-class is a variant of the Chivvay-class introduced in the anime Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam.
Technology & Combat Characteristics[]
The Chivvay Kai-class' modification included the addition of four mega beam guns, two located on top at midships and the other two located on the sides of the engines, and a catapult at the edge of the cargo bay hatch to improve mobile suit launching capabilities.
Armaments[]
- Triple Mega Particle Gun
- The primary weapons of the Chivvay Kai-Class is a pair of three barrel mega particle gun turrets. These high-powered energy weapons have a long range and a heavy punch ideal for penetrating through thick armor. One triple mega particle gun turret is in front of the bridge tower, with another on the rear of the vessel, atop the engines. In U.C. 0096, the class is seen with a third triple mega particle gun on the underside of the ship’s engines, similar to the MS Igloo’s Chivvay-class’s loadout.
- Mega Beam Gun
- The secondary weapons of the Chivvay Kai-Class are four mega particle gun turrets. One pair of mega beam gun turrets is mounted on the sides of the engines, giving coverage to the front and rear. Another pair is mounted midship, near the bridge tower. In U.C. 0096, the class is seen with only two turrets, with the midship guns removed in favor of more anti-aircraft guns.
- Anti-Aircraft Gun
- These weapons serve primarily as an anti-air/mobile suit defense. The Chivvay Kai-class is equipped with fourteen single barreled turrets, ten mounted midship, with five on each side of the ship. The other four are mounted adjacent to the mobile suit hangar and launch deck, two on each side. In U.C. 0096, the class is seen with twenty two two-barreled turrets, similar to the MS Igloo’s Chivvay-class’s armament with the additional two turrets on either side of the launch deck.
- Missile Launcher
- These missile launchers are equipped on the bow of the ship, four on each side. In U.C. 0096, the class is seen with twelve missile launchers, similar to the MS Igloo’s Chivvay-class.
History[]
After the One Year War, the restored Republic of Zeon was allowed to maintain its independence and a defense force, so long as they agreed to follow certain guidelines set by the Earth Federation, including random inspections. In light of this the Republic of Zeon chose to redesign the Chivvay-class from the ground up, culminating in the Chivvay Kai-class heavy cruiser.
During the Gryps War, the Republic of Zeon would form an alliance with the Titans and supply the organization with several Chivvay Kai-class and Musai Kai-class vessels. In U.C. 0096, some ships of the class would see service with the Sleeves.
