Char Aznable (シャア・アズナブル Shā Azunaburu?) is a main character from the movie Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX -Beginning-.
Background Information[]
A Principality of Zeon ace pilot known by the nickname "The Red Comet".[1] Maj. Char Aznable achieved numerous victories during Principality of Zeon's war of independence against the Earth Federation in U.C. 0079. His most notable achievement included the capturing of the Federation's prototype mobile suit, the RX-78-02 White Gundam, and their newly constructed warship, the Pegasus, at Side 7.[1]
Char's true identity was Casval Daikun,[1] son of the late Zeon Daikun who was the founder of Republic of Zeon. Char harbored hatred towards the ruling Zabi Family for the death of his father, and he joined the Zeon Armed Forces with the ultimate aim of avenging for his father and to establish a new future for the Spacenoid evolution known as Newtypes.
Personality & Character[]
Char was well-liked by his subordinates not only for his superb piloting skills, but also for his bravery and intelligence on battlefields. He led by example and was often the first one to fight against enemies despite being outnumbered. Char's action was not an act of foolhardiness but with careful planning backed by his quick adaptation to complex situation to make things happened, as such he was held in high regards by those who were under his command such as Denim and Dren, who knew they have a brilliant leader whom they could trust and rely upon.
Char also appreciated fellow Newtypes such as Challia Bull who shared his vision for the Spacenoid future. This was also part of his plan to muster his own power and human resources to defeat the Zabi Family.
Skills & Abilities[]
Char honed his skill as a mobile suit pilot and a senior commander throughout the war, to an extent that he could pilot the White Gundam for the first time without the need of a manual despite the difference between EFF's and Zeon's piloting system.[1] He was also an inspiring leader who made everyone around him better, as shown in the decisive actions taken by Denim and Dren during critical moments.[1] Char's smarts and achievements did not go unnoticed by researcher such as Dr Flanagan who believed Char displayed Newtype's true potential and willingly entrusted his Psycommu system for Char to use in the battlefield.[1] In addition, Char was able to plan his every action several steps ahead of the others which led him to defy insurmountable odds and achieve brilliant victories against the Federal Forces.
History[]
In October U.C. 0079, Maj. Char Aznable received information of Federation's secret weapon development activities at Side 7. He led his mobile suit patrol squad with Denim and Slender to sneak into Side 7 to gather more information. Once they discovered EFF's latest mobile suits inside, Char and Denim attacked the parked EFF mobile suits and parts. When the surprised Federal Force mounted the counterattack, Char asked Denim to provide cover for him to hijack the unmanned White Gundam.[1] The duo succeeded with Char's Gundam quickly defeated a charging Guncannon and later forcibly took the EFF new carrier Pegasus by destroying the bridge and killed its captain Paolo Cassius.[1]
Afterward, Char repainted the captured "White Gundam" in his personal color of red, turning it into the Red Gundam which he continued to use as his main machine on the front lines. His highly coordinated attacks with fellow Newtype Challia Bull became a model strategy in mobile suit combat, serving as a template of the "MAV" paired-MS tactic for future engagements.[1]
When Assault on Luna-II commence, M'Quve sidelined Char due to personal reason. Ironically, this makes Char's fleet the only group that can counter Federation's Operation Solomon Drop at the lunar base Granada. Char launched from the Sodon and was ordered to alter the falling asteroid fortress, but an unknown phenomenon called Zeknova occurred, causing Char and his Red Gundam to disappear without a trace.[1]

- His rank in the official English translation is Lieutenant Commander, and after his promotion, Captain;[2] they're the Naval equivalent of an Army Major and Colonel, respectively.
- Char Aznable's Japanese voice actor, Yuuki Shin, previously voiced the fake Mafty Navue Erin in Mobile Suit Gundam Hathaway.
- Char Aznable's English voice actor, Kyle McCarley, previously voiced Mikazuki Augus in Mobile Suit Gundam IRON-BLOODED ORPHANS, marking the second time a voice actor in Gundam has played both a main protagonist and a character of Char's archetype.
