Cardo Nabo (カルド・ナボ Karudo Nabo?) is a character from Mobile Suit Gundam the Witch from Mercury PROLOGUE. She was a researcher who represented the Vanadis Institute. As a leading proponent of the "GUND FORMAT" theory, she had earned the respect of her fellow researchers [3].
History[]
At some point in the past, she saved her student Elnora Samaya from an accident in which she lost her right arm [1]. Cardo herself had a prosthetic left eye and a cranial implant [2].
Vanadis Incident[]
Cardo ends the Permet link connection test.
On the day of the attack, her student was in the cockpit of the Gundam Lfrith undergoing a Permet link connection test. As no abnormalities were detected in the GUND Format, she managed all the way to layer 32. She failed to call layer 33 and Dr. Cardo Nabo (Thrall) denied Elnora's requests to increase the GUND Format score as it was contrary to their test objective. Elnora grew impatient but Cardo ended the test despite Elnora's claims that she was not yet in a dangerous range. Cardo told her to not get so worked up, considering someone—Ericht Samaya—was there to see her. During Eri's birthday party, Elnora's prosthetic failed. She was nontheless grateful to the technology and Dr. Cardo, for saving her life [1].
With her parents busy, Eri went back to the laboratory to wake the Lfrith up, as she felt her parents care more about it than her, even on her birthday. Cardo, who was in the cockpit, overheard and apologised. She explained the importance of the Lfrith in allowing humanity to live in space. Cardo brought her to the cockpit and registered her with the Lfrith by placing her hand on a panel. While Ericht vocally inputted her personal data into the Lfrith, Cardo was notified that the Mobile Suit Development Council's press conference—which the Ochs Earth Corporation had been left out of—was about to start. Cardo arrived to watch the broadcast with her colleagues and realised that the ship that had just entered port was a trap [1].
Later, in her office, Dr. Cardo Nabo reached for a firearm in her desk drawers when the assault unit commander of Cathedra entered to execute her. Surrounded by images of what the GUND Format had done for medicine, she declared GUND a necessity for humanity to go out into space. Cathedra considered her words an excuse, to which she aimed her pistol at them. When Elnora booted up the Lfrith, it intercepted a message that the enemy had successfully neutralized the lives of Cardo Nabo and all key members, and that they were to retreat as soon as preparations to blow up the front were complete. Elnora was saddened by her death [1].
