Boosted Man

Boosted Man is a term introduced in the anime Mobile Suit Gundam SEED.

Overview[]

A Boosted Man is sub-series of "Biological CPU", a Natural who has undergone special training, psychological manipulation and been injected with combat enhancing drugs to give them physical abilities greater than those of the Coordinators. A Boosted Man has micro-implants surgically installed in their brains and glands, and are mentally conditioned to eliminate their sense of fear and increase their aggression during combat. They are also given regular doses of a stimulant called "Gamma Glipheptin" to enhance their stamina and reaction speed to the utmost limit, allowing them to pilot specialized mobile suits with performance comparable to that of the one piloted by Coordinators.[1] However, they suffer agonizing withdrawal symptoms as the effects of this stimulant wear off, forcing them to withdraw from battle when their time limit expires.[1] Their addiction to and their need for periodic doses of the Gamma Glipheptin guaranteed their loyalty to the Alliance.

History[]

Boosted Men were created by Blue Cosmos, whose members later joined the upper echelons of the Earth Alliance, to enginner soldiers to fight and kill Coordinators. Most of the subjects that joined the Biological CPU program were children who had their entire past erased by Blue Cosmos.

The most notable Boosted Men were Orga Sabnak, Shani Andras and Clotho Buer, the pilots the Second-Generation G Project Gundam. Orga, Shani and Clotho served under Blue Cosmos leader Muruta Azrael, who first deployed them on July 15, C.E. 71, during the Earth Alliance's Invasion of Orb. During the battle, Orga, Shani and Clotho fought against Kira Yamato and Athrun Zala to a standstill,[2] but were forced to retreat on two occasions, the first due to the effects of the Gamma Glipheptin wearing off,[1] the second because their mobile suits' power was nearly depleted.[3] After the battle, Azrael and the Boosted Men joined the Dominion Corps and fought against Kira and Athrun again during the Battle of Mendel.[4][5]

In September, the Boosted Men were deployed as the vanguard of the Peacemaker Force during Operation Elvis, where they protected the assault force to fire Nuclear Missiles at the Battle of Boaz and the Second Battle of Jachin Due. However, during the latter battle, the missiles were intercepted by the METEOR-equipped ZGMF-X10A Freedom Gundam and ZGMF-X09A Justice Gundam.[6] As the battle continued the Boosted Men were ultimatly killed, Orga being sliced in half by Athrun, while Shani and Clotho were killed by ZAFT pilot Yzak Joule.[7][8]

Following the end of the First Alliance-PLANT War, Blue Cosmos haulted further experimentation with Boosted Men, viewing their high combat capabilities as less important then their ability to be controlled. Blue Cosmos then shifted its research towards creating Extendeds.
