The Battle of Endymion Crater is a conflict of the First Alliance-PLANT War, featured in the photonovel Mobile Suit Gundam SEED MSV: Battlefield Record and the video game Mobile Suit Gundam SEED: Never Ending Tomorrow.
Prelude[]
As the First Alliance-PLANT War raged on, ZAFT sought to make footholds on various strategic points. On May 3, C.E. 70, ZAFT sought to capture the Earth Alliance's Ptolemaeus Lunar Base, setting up a base on the Dark Side of the Moon. The Grimaldi Crater was the dividing point between the two forces, creating what was known as the Grimaldi Front.
The battle in this area reached a fever pitch when, on June 2, ZAFT attacked a vital supply depot on the Endymion Crater. To fight off this fleet, the 3rd Fleet, which contained five TS-MA2mod.00 Moebius Zero, one piloted by Mu La Flaga, was sent to drive ZAFT off.
The Battle[]
As the 3rd Fleet arrived, the EA forces were heavily outmatched against ZAFT's ZGMF-1017 GINN mobile suits. However, the arrival of the Mobius Zeros started to turn the tide. Despite that, a ZGMF-1017M GINN High Maneuver Type, piloted by Rau Le Creuset arrived and put pressure on the forces, leading to the two rivals fighting for the first time. During the battle, Rau easily recognized Mu and began ranting about putting him down once and for all, which confused Mu. However, before their fight could conclude, the Cyclops System, installed under the base as an ice-melting system, suddenly went out of control and exploded.
Aftermath[]
The destruction of the Cyclops System left a bloodbath, killing soldiers on both sides. Mu La Flaga was the sole survivor of the Moebius Zero Corps and Rau Le Creuset was able to escape. Rumors circulate that the Cyclops System didn't go out of control on its own, and that Earth Alliance forces deliberately caused the system to overload, but it was never confirmed. In an attempt to save face, the Earth Alliance held Mu La Flaga up as the hero of the day, giving him the nickname "Hawk of Endymion". At the same time, ZAFT rewarded Le Creuset for his role in destroying the 3rd Fleet with command of the Nazca-class Vesalius and the Le Creuset Team became an elite squadron within ZAFT.[1]
