The Battle of Artemis is a conflict of the First Alliance-PLANT War, featured in Mobile Suit Gundam SEED.

Prelude[]

Following the Skirmish near Artemis, the Archangel arrived at the Eurasian asteroid base, hoping to be resupplied and make its way to Moon. However, their welcome was less than inviting as the commander of the base, Major General Gerard Garcia, was extremely sought to use the opportunity to rise in position in the Earth Alliance by obtaining data on the GAT-X105 Strike Gundam.[1] Garcia held the Archangel's crew and the Orb civilians hostage, and tried to force the Strike Gundam's pilot Kira Yamato to supply him with the mobile suits technical data, to no avail.[2]

The Battle[]

Near Artemis, the Laurasia-class vessel Gamow, still hunting the Archangel, sent out Nicol Amalfi in his GAT-X207 Blitz Gundam, attempting to use the mobile suit's Mirage Colloid Stealth System to infiltrate Artemis while its shields were deactivated.[2] The Blitz successfully bypassed Artemis’ defenses and began to systematically destroy its shield projectors, allowing for the Duel Gundam and Buster Gundam to join it. In response to the attack, the Eurasian Federation deployed several TS-MA2 Moebius mobile armors to engage the ZAFT mobile suits, however, as they were no match against the Gundams, nearly all were destroyed, and many collided into the base itself, killing several crew and officers.[2]

During the battle, the crew of the Archangel used the opportunity to escape from their Eurasian captors, while Kira in the Sword Strike Gundam engaged the Blitz Gundam inside Artemis. In the chaos, the Archangel was able to escape from the asteroid base and the Gamow left the area to continue its pursuit of the ship.[2]

Aftermath[]

While Artemis had been heavily damaged, the base remained intact. However, its Lightwave Barrier would remain inoperable for sometime. This information was soon acquired by multiple pirate groups within the area, who sought to attack Artemis while it was weakened. In order to protect his base, General Gerard hired the mercenary group Serpent Tail to protect the astroid while the barrier was being repaired.[3]

After leaving Artemis without having received supplies, the Archangel set course for Junius Seven to recover water and any usable supplies from the wreckage of the colony. While there, the crew preformed an honoring ceremony for all the lives lost during the Bloody Valentine Incident.[4]
