BUNNyS is a mobile suit operating system (OS) that appears in Advance of Zeta: The Flag of Titans and Advance of Zeta Re-Boot: Gundam Inle.
Technology & Combat Characteristics[]
BUNNyS is the special operating system installed in the Gundam TR-6. Also referred to as a Cyber Newtype Personality OS, a Type 3/Type 7 OS (Replacement Program), it was developed under the OVER THE MIND Project. This OS elevates mobile suit performance to next-generation levels and beyond [1]. It integrates and manages both the Universal Replacement System and the components of the Model Integration Plan, while also enabling unmanned, automated remote operation. By linking the operational data of each TR-6 form, BUNNyS continuously learns and refines its armament recombination[2]. Even if a unit is defeated by a powerful enemy, the OS adapts by developing countermeasures from the battle data, evolving itself to ensure future victories. [3] [4]
Although there have been previous attempts at personality-based OS development, no precedent exists for a system capable of overseeing and controlling such a vast and complex parts replacement system. It also manages the complex fire-control system and enables operation of Psycommu equipment, allowing even ordinary pilots to handle TR-6 forms equipped with Psycommu systems. When operated by a Newtype or Cyber Newtype, its performance is said to increase dramatically. While it was reportedly intended for installation on all Titans mobile suits as part of the Model Integration Plan, confirmed examples are limited to the TR-6 and the TR-5 Hrairoo. The Hazel line did not receive it due to delays in the program.[5][2][4]
In the manga OVER THE MIND, the combat data system intended for the Federation’s next-generation mass-produced mobile suit was developed during “Operation No. 3.” This involved digitizing and storing the minds of Cyber Newtype test subjects, with the system reaching completion at the moment of their death. The story concludes with the test subject—a young boy—seemingly becoming the Gundam itself. Later, in The Black Rabbit’s Dream, this boy is identified as “Subject No. 3,” who is said to have sacrificed his life for the OVER THE MIND project. It is also rumored that the project claimed numerous lives through human experimentation, though the truth of these claims remains uncertain.[6][4]
In a memo published in Flag of Titans, the author explains that the TR-6 [Haze’n-thley II]’s mysterious ability to automatically track and instantly destroy three enemy mobile suits and a battleship simply by locking onto them is the result of it being equipped with a “Cyber Newtype Personality OS,” developed under the OVER THE MIND project (commonly known as “Project 3”). The memo further notes that the head-mounted Weapon Cargo Unit used in the Gigantic Form and other configurations incorporates a Quasi-Psycommu system—similar to that of the Doven Wolf—designed to work in tandem with the Cyber Newtype Personality OS. This allows ordinary pilots to engage in Newtype-style combat, including performing all-range attacks.[7]
History[]
In The Black Rabbit’s Dream, a ReZeon Woundwort equipped with BUNNyS demonstrated the flexibility of its OS by removing limbs from nearby construction mobile suits at the site of a pipeline accident and replacing its own with them in order to successfully clear the debris. Later, using a disk containing a Type-91 rewritten version of the OS owned by Titans Remnants member Tsukimori, it was even able to link a Zeon-use Zssa Booster Marine Type to a Federation mobile suit, the Early Hazel. Hoshimaru described this phenomenon as “as if the OS had a will of its own, thinking and acting independently.”[8]
Furthermore, a stolen bucket wheel excavator–type Psycho Gundam Mk-II, which had been repurposed as heavy construction equipment at the Mount Olympus Crater Base, was outfitted with a new BUNNyS pseudo-personality OS along with combat programs (BUNNyS CA Type) provided by Dr. Valhalla. Mercury, a Cyber Newtype clone of the doctor, became its pilot and was ultimately possessed by BUNNyS, allowing her to draw out three times the machine’s normal performance. Despite the Psycho Gundam Mk-II’s massive size, it exhibited astonishing speed and agility, even knocking down Funnels in melee combat alone. However, the immense mental and physical strain on the pilot was so severe that she was prepared to sacrifice her life.[9]
