The Attack on the Junius Colonies is a conflict from the Cosmic Era.
Prelude[]
Since the creation of the PLANT Colonies, the Sponsor Nations stipulated that the colonies were not allowed to produce food for themselves, granting them a means to control the colony cluster. Despite this regulation, the citizens of the colonies sought to overcome it to fully establish themselves as an independent nation. As the PLANT Colonies had no military force to counter the navy of the Sponsor Nations, the Zodiac Alliance, later known as ZAFT (Zodiac Alliance of Freedom Treaty), began a secret project to manufacture a weapon to surpass the TS-MA2 Moebius mobile armor. In C.E. 67, the first fully operational mobile suit, the YMF-01B Proto GINN was completed and PLANT began the secret mass production of a successor unit, the ZGMF-1017 GINN.
In C.E. 69, a year after the disastrous Mandelbrot Incident, Chairman Siegel Clyne ordered the PLANT Colonies Junius Seven through Ten to be remodeled for agricultural production. When the Sponsor Nations learned of this infringement they deployed the Atlantic Federation’s 4th Space Fleet to force the PLANT Colonies back into line.
The Battle[]
Upon the 4th Fleet’s arrival at the PLANT Colonies, ZAFT deployed their GINN mobile suits in their debut battle. The GINNs quickly overwhelmed the Atlantic Federation’s Moebius mobile armors, eventually forcing the fleet to withdraw from PLANT territory.[1]
Aftermath[]
The success of the GINN’s combat performance against the Sponsor Nations’ Moebius became a major boon to PLANT’s goal for independence. Chairman Clyne issued demands for complete autonomy and trade equality to the sponsor nations and promised to halt all resource exports to Earth should no response arrive by January 1st, C.E. 70.
The defeat of his forces at the hands of ZAFT’s mobile suits became a profound moment for Captain Duane Halberton. Realizing that the GINN was superior to the Moebius in nearly every way, Halberton drafted his own mobile suit development program; the G Project. His proposal was initially rejected by his superiors, however, he was able to gather enough support to begin the project in secret. It wouldn’t be until a year later, after numerous defeats during the First Alliance-PLANT War, that the G Project was fully approved and practical development of the Earth Alliance’s first mobile suits began.
At the onset of the First Alliance-PLANT War, the Atlantic Federation, now part of the Earth Alliance, once again launched an attack on the Junius Colonies. Under the secret orders of Blue Cosmos leader Muruta Azrael, the fleet uses Nuclear Missiles to destroy Junius Seven.[2] The event became known as the Bloody Valentine Incident.[3]
