The Assault on the Naval Review is a conflict featured in Mobile Suit Gundam 0083: Stardust Memory. Originally a naval gathering for the Earth Federation Forces, the event became the second phase in the Delaz Fleet's Operation Stardust.
Prelude[]
In Universal Century 0083, the crew of the MSC-07 Albion had been on a chase for Zeon Ace Anavel Gato, who had stolen the RX-78GP02A Gundam "Physalis" from Torrington Base. Despite their best efforts, Gato escaped into space and reunited with the Delaz Fleet, where Aiguille Delaz revealed the existence of the Mobile Suit and vowed to punish the Federation for their supposed hypocrisy. The Albion found itself sidetracked when pilot Kou Uraki got the RX-78GP01 Gundam "Zephyranthes" heavily damaged in an encounter with Cima Garahau and her Cima Fleet, needing to repair it and convert it into the RX-78GP01-Fb Gundam "Zephyranthes" Full Burnern before resuming their search.
Once on the move, the crew of the Albion encountered the Cima Fleet facing down the brand new Federation battleship Birmingham-class Birmingham, and later able to obtain a suitcase containing the plans for Operation Stardust, though the one who found those plans, South Burning, was killed when his RGM-79N GM Custom suffered catastrophic failure that destroyed the suit and the plans, leaving the crew in the dark and unable to move in earnest.
The Federation, undeterred by the Delaz Fleet's words, opted to push forward with their Navel Review. Numerous battleships were gathered at Solomon, now known as Konpeitio Island, as a massive show of force. Realizing the time was right, the Delaz Fleet made their move.
The Battle[]
As groups of MS-06F-2 Zaku II F2 Type and MS-09R-2 Rick Dom II provided distractions for both the Albion crew and other Mobile Suit teams, Gato dived into the heart of the Navel Review. As the Navel Review had no Mobile Suits participating, the battleships were the only ones that attempted to shoot down the "Physallis". This proved futile as the Gundam's speed and Gato's piloting skills were superior to the aiming capabilities of the battleships. Launching relatively upwards, Gato unlatched the "Physallis"' shield and attached the atomic bazooka together and took aim at the Birmingham. With a haunting declaration of the revival of Zeon and his return to Solomon, Gato fired the nuclear warhead at the Birmingham, pulverizing it and engulfing the entire area in a blinding white light.
The crew of the Albion was too late.
Aftermath[]
When the light died down, the catastrophe was made apparent - over 2/3rd of the battleships there were destroyed and many more were disabled by the EMP wave, the fates of those there unknown. It is also unknown how Konpeitio Island fared, though it was not destroyed. Gato escaped with the "Physallis", but was confronted by a vengeful Uraki, leading to a battle that saw both Gundams ultimately being destroyed.
