The Assassination of George Glenn is a conflict from the Cosmic Era, featured in the anime Mobile Suit Gundam SEED.

Prelude[]

Throughout his life, George Glenn had gained world-wide fame for his accolades on every field he touched. An olympic gold medalist, famous American Football player, Air Force pilot, and astronaut, one of Glenn's greatest success came after a successful operation at Jupiter that resulted in him finding a fossil of an unidentified creature. This, however, muddied by his controversial revelation that he was born through the manipulation of his genes for specific traits.[1][2]

The ability to choose which traits a child could have was both a breakthrough and a curse as this led to many making this choice to obtain superior descendants, but led to a cultural divide with those that did not jump ship, who were subsequently referred to as Naturals. This was not helped by Glenn's decision to develop and create PLANT Colonies in space for the purpose of further development and scientific research. The PLANTs would lead to a physical division as most Coordinators preferred to live in space among their own kind than be relegated with inferiorly talented Naturals.[1][2]

The Assassination[]

During a public conference, an unknown gunner walked into one of Glenn's talks before firing a shot through Glenn's heart.[1][2]

Aftermath[]

The mass outrage from Glenn's death burned almost every bridge to peace in the hearts of the Coordinators as many more would abandon Earth in droves for the PLANT Colonies and eventually set up the PLANT Supreme Council and ZAFT for its own independent administration and military, respectively. A few Coordinators would remain on Earth, however these few would only find homes with neutral countries such as the Orb Union. The unnamed gunman, however, was seen as a hero by a select few, and many would honor this man by plotting the killings of several Coordinators. These individuals would eventually collate into the anti-Coordinator terrorist group, Blue Cosmos and seek to preserve their "pure and blue world" from the taint of Coordinators.

Glenn's brain was preserved following his death and was placed into a special capsule. This capsule was eventually acquired by Junk Guild member Lowe Guele, and Glenn's memories were eventually used to create a hologram that acted as the organization's ship captain.[3]
