Relationships[]
Within the plot of Mobile Suit Gundam U.C. ENGAGE, Ashley's main relationships are noted to be with that of Ogan Montagne, a fellow MA test pilot as well as Ashley's co-pilot. After a sudden attack by Federation forces, Ogan and Ashley are left wounded, though Ogan's wounds prove to be fatal. Within his last moments, Ogan makes Ashley promise to keep his memory alive and protect his adoptive daughter Peche Montagne. Ashley, while traumatized by the event, makes certain of his promise at the behest of Simus Al Bakharov, a fellow engineer with MIP.
Ashley's main concurrent relationship within the 1st arc of UC Engage is with Peche Montagne, to whom he acts as mentor and even surrogate father in lieu of the death of the adoptive dad. Ashley helps Peche pilot MA and strengthen her Newtype abilities. Their relationship is tied deeply to their shared remembrance of Ogan Montagne.
Ashley is shown to show an otherwise cordial relationship with Simus Al Bakharov, who is receptive of both Ashley's concerns and all the while urging of him to participate in furthering advancements on Mobile Armor as well as furthering advancements with the Psycommu to encourage Newtype testing. Simus also notes that she had access to a private journal of Ashley's, noting details written by the latter that he was shown to have Newtype capabilities himself. Ashley states early on in the same cutscene that Tokwan is also an engineer and text pilot with MIP. His statement is ensconced by a preview held by MIP, wherein a statement is released that the MA-06 Val Walo will be the spiritual successor of the MA-05 Bigro. Ashley slightly alludes to the notion that the Bigro is based on Tokwan's flight data as well as engineering. Tokwan is noted in helping secure funding for the future development of the Val Walo.
By proxy, Ashley also maintains relationships with both Kycilia Zabi and Dr. Flanagan.
Notes & Trivia[]
- Ashley is noted as having Newtype abilities via a private journal in which he kept. These abilities were reportedly triggered after the traumatic experience he had witnessing the death of Ogan Montagne.
- Ashley Horn seems to suffer from CPTSD/PTSD and is initially unwilling and psychologically unable to participate further in MA testing or training, all in reference to the death of Ogan Montagne.
- Ashley Horn and Ogan Montagne are revealed to be the engineers of the MA-06 Val Walo.
- Ashley, Simus Al Bakharov, Ogan Montagne, and Tokwan are all noted to have been not only test pilots for MA, but engineers recruited by the Principality of Zeon to develop weapons to defend the homeland. It is not made clear as to if they worked for MIP before being conscripted or if their positions were given during the development of the MIP-X1. All four members were given the status of Captain and were commissioned officers.
