Armure Lumiere is a type of defense technology introduced in the manga Mobile Suit Gundam SEED X Astray.

Technical Overview

A variation of the Eurasian Federation's Lightwave Barrier energy shield, the Armure Lumiere is a scaled-down version of the technology for use by mobile suits. By deploying multiple emitters, this system generates a 360-degree barrier, capable of blocking both physical and energy weapons. Unlike the Lightwave Barrier, the Armure Lumiere is mono-phase, allowing for the equipped mobile suit to fire its weapons through the energy barrier when it's active while maintaining its defense. Unfortunately, a battery powered MS can only sustain a 360-degree "Armure Lumiere" barrier for about 5 minutes.

Besides functioning as a shield, the "Armure Lumiere" can also be adjusted to generate a beam lance, beam blade, etc., to attack enemy units. When used offensively, Armure Lumiere has the ability to penetrate another Armure Lumiere barrier, positron reflector barrier, and possibly beam shields. Armure Lumiere barrier can also be penetrated by weapons with anti-beam properties (e.g. anti-beam coating). Furthermore, it was also implied that the Armure Lumiere emitters were vulnerable as they themselves are not shielded.

History

Seeking to reach their rival, the Atlantic Federation, in the mobile suit arms race, the Eurasian Federation sought to integrate their Lightwave Barrier technology in their mobile suits to give them the advantage. A mobile suit-scale version, known as "Armure Lumiere", was developed for Eurasia's CAT1-X Hyperion Gundams. Hyperion Unit One was piloted by the Coordinator Canard Pars, who eventually equipped his suit with a nuclear reactor and a Neutron Jammer Canceller, granting it a far longer use of its barrier. Nevertheless, the suit was critically damage in a fight against the YMF-X000A Dreadnought Gundam. However, the Armure Lumiere system was salvaged and installed on the YMF-X000A/H Dreadnought H.

During the Second Alliance-PLANT War, two new version of energy shields were developed from the Armure Lumiere. One was the Positron Reflector used by Earth Alliance, the other was the Beam Shields developed by ZAFT.
