Aristide Hughes (アリスタイド・ヒューズ Arisutaido Hyūzu?) was a character introduced in the 1992 CD drama Mobile Suit Gundam 0083: Battle of Lunga Point. He was the gunnery officer of the MSC-07 Albion.
Background[]
Before the One Year War, Hughes was assigned to the gunnery office of a Federation warship. He was responsible for the maintenance of a Hood Type V mega particle cannon, a role he was extremely proud of, since it was the most powerful of its kind at the time.
However, during the Battle of Loum, his fleet was attacked by a single MS-06C Zaku II Early Production Type. The Zaku easily dove into the blind spots of the warships' main cannons, taking them out one by one. The ship that Hughes crewed was also destroyed. Hughes was left drifting in space, an experience he likened to drowning. As he battled oxygen deprivation, he cursed at the mobile suit that destroyed his ship. Miraculously, he survived and was rescued.
Eventually, Hughes was assigned to another warship, where he was put in charge of the even more advanced Hood Type VIII mega particle cannon. However, his ship was assigned to the rear line at the Battle of A Baoa Qu, and did not fire even a single shot until the end of the war.
History[]
After the end of the One Year War, Hughes was reassigned to the newly constructed Albion as its gunnery officer. Unfortunately, at the Kimberlite base in East Africa, the Albion's main gun failed to shoot down the HLV carrying the stolen RX-78GP02A Gundam "Physalis".
On November 5, U.C. 0083, after the Albion left Von Braun for Solomon, Kou Uraki, piloting the GP01 Full Burnern, began testing a new weapon - the Blash XBR-L-83d prototype beam rifle. However, since the rifle was meant for another new unit, Kou was unable to hit the target. At this point, Hughes fired the main cannon at the target, destroying it in one shot. When questioned by Captain Sinapus, Hughes insisted that it was a misfire.
Trivia[]
- The type of ship he crewed during the One Year War was not explicitly stated, but Gundam Officials established that "Hood Type V" and "Hood Type VIII" were used by the Magellan-class, and that Hood was the name of the manufacturer.
