Anti-Ship Sword

The Anti-Ship Sword is a mobile suit weapon introduced in the anime Mobile Suit Gundam SEED.

Technical Overview[]

An Anti-Ship Sword, also known as Anti-Vessel Sword, is a sword primarily designed to slice apart sections of warships, but it is also capable of slicing a mobile suit in half. This weapon can be a large physical sword with a built-in laser/beam emitter, or simply a large physical sword.

History[]

The first Anti-Ship Sword to be deployed in combat was the "Schwert Gewehr" 15.78m Anti-Ship Sword used by the GAT-X105+AQM/E-X02 Sword Strike Gundam, a variation of the GAT-X105 Strike Gundam equipped with the close-combat Sword Striker Pack. The Sword Strike made effective use of its Anti-Ship Sword during the Battle of Heliopolis in C.E. 71, where it destroyed the ZGMF-1017 GINN used by ZAFT ace pilot, Miguel Aiman.[1] Months later, the Sword Strike used the "Schwert Gewehr" to destroy another ZAFT mobile suit, the GAT-X207 Blitz Gundam, during the Second Battle near Orb.[2] A different model of "Schwert Gewehr" was also used by the prototype GAT-X133 Sword Calamity. Prior to the Second Battle of Jachin Due, the MBF-02+P202QX Strike Rouge IWSP, which was equipped with a pair of 9.1m Anti-Ship Swords, was deployed for testing in space, but it was not used in combat due to control issues. After the First Alliance-PLANT War, the "Schwert Gewehr" was mass-produced with the Sword Striker Pack for used by the Earth Alliance's mass produced mobile suits, such as the GAT-01A1 Dagger and the GAT-02L2 Dagger L.

In C.E. 73, the Earth Alliance deployed the GAT-X105E Strike Noir Gundam, a variant of the GAT-X105E Strike E equipped with the Noir Striker Pack, which has two MR-Q10 "Fragarach 3" Beam Blades among its weaponry. In the same year, ZAFT developed a pair of MMI-710 "Excalibur" Anti-Ship Laser Swords for the ZGMF-X56S Impulse Gundam's Sword Silhouette Pack, which it could equip to form the ZGMF-X56S/β Sword Impulse Gundam.[3] The "Excalibur" Anti-Ship Laser Sword was also used by the ZGMF-X56S/α Force Impulse Gundam and the ZGMF-X666S Legend Gundam, but they cannot equip the Sword Silhouette Pack. ZAFT later developed an improved version of the "Excalibur" - the MMI-714 "Arondight" Beam Sword for the ZGMF-X42S Destiny Gundam. Meanwhile, the MBF-02 Strike Rouge reappeared as the MBF-02+EW454F Strike Rouge Ootori, which was equipped with a Large Anti-Ship Sword.

In C.E. 75, the world peace monitoring organization Compass deployed the ZGMF-56E2/β Sword Impulse Gundam Spec II and ZGMF/A-42S2 Destiny Gundam Spec II, which are armed with the "Excalibur" Anti-Ship Laser Swords and MMI-714 "Arondight" Beam Sword respectively. The Compass also finally completed the MDE262S Proud Defender support unit and equipped it with the AVS "Futsunomitama", both of which are used by the ZGMF/A-262PD-P Mighty Strike Freedom Gundam.

  • The ZGMF-2000 GOUF Ignited's MMI-558 "Tempest" Beam Sword bears a similar appearance to Anti-Ship Swords.
  • The "AMS" (Anti Mobile Suit) Heavy Blade and AMS Enhanced Swords wielded by the Kingdom of Foundation's NOG-M4F Rud-ro.A and NOG-M2D1/E Cal-re.A respectively have a similar appearance to Anti-Ship Swords.
