Annqi (アンキー, Ankii^?) is a character introduced in the anime Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX.

Personality & Character

She is president of Junk Shop Kaneban Ltd. She is also involved in various illegal businesses, including Clan Battles.

Annqi is a very pragmatic person, if a bit unethical, not caring about minors, like Amate Yuzuriha and Shūji Itō, fighting their clan battles as long as they kept winning. She is also treacherous, willing to sell said children out to the Zeon military, despite everything they had done for her clan, in exchange for a sum of money after being pressured by Challia Bull.

Skills & Abilities

She has very good intuition, able to recognize Amate's real interests and predict future's events. She is also very knowledgeable about various topics, not only she knows of Shiiko Sugai's war records but also her current domestic life.

History

Annqi was a Principality of Zeon's citizen, however, at some point before UC 0085, she had left the Zeon and moved to Izuma. Having witness the Spacenoid's suffering, she no longer had any trust in either the Principality or Side 6's government.

Annqi was first seen along other Pomeranians/Kaneban members Jezzi, Kaine, and Nabu when Amate and Nyaan delivered the Installer Device to their place. While others were concentrating on dealing with the device and their clan battler the following day, she sensed Amate's interest in it and was surprised to hear Amate asking if space was free. After Amate acquired the gMS-Ω GQuuuuuuX, she invited her to fight in clan battle and was confident that the girl would accept her offer, even when Amate herself was not sure about it.

Other Pomeranians' members were ecstatic about Amate and Shūji's winning streak but also had various concern about the two fighters, however, Annqi dismissed all of that, saying she didn't care as long as they kept winning. Later, when Shiiko Sugai approached Kaneban to ask about the gMS-α Red Gundam, Annqi was able to sense her intentions to defeat it. When she saw Shiiko's death by Shūji's hand, she called her "stupid witch."

The Pomeranians' boys were all worried about Amate being traumatized after witnessing Shūji killing someone, however, Annqi knew it was not Shiiko's death that Amate was really worried about but being able to catch up to Shūji. She assured Amate of her clan battle's achievement and encouraged her to push through if she wanted to chase after Shūji.

Despite others worrying about the meeting with Challia Bull to be a trap, she agreed to meet him alone to discuss the GQuuuuuuX's return. Her card being the explosives that she had planted in the Gundam and she threatened to trigger them if Challia did anything to her. Challia had offered to take the Gundam back after their next clan battle with the Twelve Olympians, but Annqi had bad feelings about the fight and suspected Challia of having interfered with their clans affairs. Ultimately, she agreed with Challia's offer and planned to sell out Shūji and the Red Gundam for an appropriate payout, as she sensed things would soon go down hill for the Pomeranians and they had better stop before it was too late.

Annqi was bothered by Challia's claim that there were two pilots for the GQuuuuuuX during their previous talk, and decided to go check on her money when Amate and Shūji were supposed to be fighting the Twelve Olympians. True to her intuition, she found Amate stealing the money while Nyaan was fighting in her place. Annqi tried to stop Amate, even approached her when the young girl pointed a gun at her because she thought Amate would not have the courage to shoot, Annqi calls Amate out on her recklessness and warns her dangerous predicament. Her instinct almost failed her this time as Amate did shoot her, but she managed to dodge in time, the bullet lodged into the wall right where her upper body was. Amate cursing at Annqi for selling them out, as she escapes with the money. It was implied that she ran away with the other Pomeranians' members as the company's office and hideout was empty when Side 6 Military Police raided it. It was later revealed that they had been hiding in a backwater colony on a space ship and was going to scavenge the Solar Ray's remains for junk parts after its destruction.

Notes & Trivia

• In line with the Gainax influences throughout the GQuuuuuuX series, Annqi's design is in part a callback to Grandis of Nadia: The Secret of Blue Water, Gainax's first television anime series directed by Hideaki Anno. Both characters share the same hair color and eye shape (but with the eye shadow and iris colors inversed), and also, they are female leaders of small gangs otherwise comprised of men. Also, Annqi's earrings resemble those worn by Nadia, the eponymous protagonist of said anime.
