“ | They're weapons of war, Doc, no doubt. But let me tell you, they saved my life today, and they've saved more lives than you can imagine. | ” |
—Ander Heaton tells Dr Ony Kasuga his appreciation of Red Wolves's mobile suits saving his life from the brink.[1] |
Ander Heaton (アンダー・ヒートン Andā Hīton?) is a protagonist from the ONA Mobile Suit Gundam: Requiem for Vengeance.[1]
Background[]
2nd. Lt. Heaton is a Magella Attack tank driver who belongs to the Armored Battalion under Zeon's Earth Attack Force during the One Year War. His unit partnered with the Stein Battalion which was in-charge of the re-capture operation of E.F.F.'s military base in Cluj-Napoca, Romania in Eastern Europe on November 6, U.C. 0079. Heaton's Magella served as the vanguard unit along with Stein Battalion's infantry, but they were ambushed by the E.F.F. and Heaton's unit was wiped out but he survives. During the ensuing chaos caused by another E.F.F.'s raid at the Stein Battalion, Heaton joins up with Iria Solari's team.
Personality & Character[]
Heaton is brave, smart and energetic with a positive outlook on life. He approaches his work enthusiastically and professionally and will try to accomplish difficult tasks the best way he can. He also adores mobile suits and aspires to be a MS pilot someday, as evidenced by his appreciation of Red Wolves' Zakus saved his life from the brink, and what mobile suits can do to save many more Zeon soldier's lives in the battlefields.
Heaton also has luck on his side on many occasions. For instance, during Stein Battalion's disastrous operation to re-capture E.F.F.'s headquarters in Cluj-Napoca, Heaton's Magella took a direct hit and exploded but he miraculously survived and suffered only a mild concussion.[1] During E.F.F.'s ensuing raid at Brigade Support Command's Recycling Centre, he was able to escape in the nick of time from Gundam EX's rocket launcher attack.[3]
Skills & Abilities[]
Being an experienced Magella driver, Heaton is well-versed in handling various types of vehicles as well as the use of artillery, as evidenced in his audacious attack against the intruding GM and Gundam EX with a cannon-equipped Zaku torso at the recycling center.[3]
History[]
One Year War[]
European Front[]
On November 6, U.C. 0079, Zeon's Stein Battalion initiated the re-capture of EFF's Cluj-Napoca military base in Northwestern Romania. As a member of the Armored Battalion which partnered with Maj. Joshua Stein for the operation, 2nd. Lt. Heaton and his Magella Attack MBT served as one of the vanguard unit among the advancing columns towards the base when they were suddenly ambushed by the scores of EFF's M61A5 MBTs and infantries hidden at nearby forests. Maj. Stein ordered all troops to retreat but the escape route was also cut off by the EFF's attack at the rear. Heaton tried to fight back at the EFF advance but his Magella took a direct hit and exploded, yet he was able to escape from the burning wreckage and tried to take cover with a Zeon soldier from the aerial attack by FF-S3 Saberfish fighters. Just when they were about to be hit by the incoming M61 tank's bombardment, the Red Wolf Squadrons Zaku IIs descended in front of them and saved their lives.[1] As the Red Wolves and Salamenders' mop-up operation against the EFF remnants completed, Heaton was treated by Dr Ony Kasuga for head wounds and mild concussion at the recpatured Cluj-Napoca base.
On the early morning of November 7, U.C. 0079, the EFF mounted a surprised raid at the Cluj-Napoca base. Spearheaded by RX-78(G)E Gundam EX, the EFF inflicted heavy losses to the stationed Zeon Forces including the annihilation of Armored Battalion and all of its Magella tanks. Heaton, already lost contact with his unit earlier in the day, survived the ensuring chaos and joined Red Wolves' captain Iria Solari and her comrades to regroup for evacuation. Under Solari's audacious plan, Heaton volunteered to drive a Fuel Truck besides Solari's Zaku Tank to lure the Gundam into a explosion trap. Although the Gundam came out unscathed, Solari's plan worked and provided ample time for Heaton and Hailey Arhun's infantry convoy to escape.[4]
Despite continuous interference by Gundam EX, the escaping convoy was able to head to the Romanian Mixed Mobile Brigade Headquarter, the home base of Solari and the Red Wolves. They came too late as the HQ and all weapons were destroyed by EFF and Gundam EX's attack moments earlier with only a few survivors. Heaton informed Solari the existence of a Zeon's recycling centre nearby which may be suitable for the convoy to find refuge. Solari agreed and the gang headed to the junkyard-like centre being run by Maj. Rolph Ronet of Brigade Support Command. Claiming the centre had no more capacity for accommodation, the major asked the gang to leave but soon they were warmly received by Solari's old friend, Tech. Capt. Alfee Zydos (Gearhead) who led the resident mechanics corps to salvage useful parts from damaged mobile weapons to keep Zeon's supply lines alive. On Solari's suggestion and persuasion, Zydos and his mechanics swiftly assembled two fully functional Zaku IIs from recycled parts discarded Zakus and Magella tanks. As the EFF mounted a surprised raid at the recycling centre and the Red Wolf duo of Solari and LeSean put the newly-built Zakus in action against the intruding Gundam EX and RGM-79 GM, Heaton, with help from Maj. Ronet, use a cannon-equipped Zaku torso to attack and distract the EFF mobile suits from inflicting more destruction and loss of lives.[3]
Under the order of Maj. Gen. Yuri Kellerne, Heaton joined Solari, Arhun and Zydos to infiltrate the EFF's military base near The Olt in a daring operation to hijack two GMs for Zeon's technical examinations.[5] Disguised as EFF soldiers, Heaton and Zydos discovered a trailer-bounded GM. Heaton got into the trailer and attempted to drive off but his action alarmed the EFF servicemen nearby, and Heaton found himself being shot at every direction, only to be saved by Zydos who was able to activate the GM in time to ward off the EFF soldiers.[5] Unaware of the presence of Gundam EX at the base, Zydos GM sustained serious damage from the latter's beam rifle shot and Solari rushed her stolen GM toward the Gundam EX and a fierce beam saber duel follows. This allowed Heaton to carry the injured Zydos away from the destroyed GM. As Solari's GM was overpowered by Gundam EX, Heaton fired the emergency warning shot to alert LeSean and his Zaku to rescue Solari. The GM-jack operation ended in failure with Solari barely escaped and LeSean was killed by Gundam EX.
Heaton and the escaped infiltrators were able to locate the unconscious Solari at a nearly stream and picked by Maj. Ronet's convoy in time for evacuation to Odessa spaceport to board the remaining HLVs back to Space.[6] With Dr Kasuga's help, Solari was resuscitated and bought back to life. As Solari volunteered to join the Odessa defense force to repel EFF's bombardment to the spaceport, Heaton and co. bided farewell to the Red Wolf captain and Dr Kasuga as they boarded the last HLV and return to Space safely.[6]
