Aggressor Squadron, formally known as the Zeon Asylum Corps, is a special Earth Federation Forces unit introduced in the series Mobile Suit Gundam Aggressor. It consists almost entirely of former soldiers of the Principality of Zeon who defected to the Earth Federation during the One Year War in order to avoid being imprisoned or executed back home. These defectors agreed to fight against Zeon in exchange for political asylum for themselves and their families, and the promise of Federal citizenship when the war ended.

Overview[]

Originally, Aggressor Squadron was a mixed infantry and tank unit equipped with Type 61 Tanks, but it later acquired the RX-80RR Red Rider. Aggressor Squadron was commanded by Captain Douglas Trumbull, an EFF officer of mediocre ability and cowardly temperament who nonetheless continued to earn promotions. The unit was also accompanied by the Earth Federation Army's 3rd Company under the command of Captain Roston, which was present to monitor the ex-Zeon soldiers for any sign of treachery. EFF leadership generally considered Aggressor Squadron to be expendable due to suspicions about its members' loyalties, and it was frequently assigned new missions one after another without little or no time to recuperate. Despite the hostility they faced from the EFF for being ex-Zeon and from Zeon troops for betraying their homeland, Aggressor Squadron consistently managed to achieve its objectives with aplomb thanks to the strategic and tactical acumen of Sergeant Heinz Highway, and the mobile suit combat prowess of Corporal Chase Skullgard.

History[]

In November of U.C. 0079, Aggressor Squadron was deployed to counter Zeon forces being air-dropped across the Amazon basin on various missions to locate Jaburo, the main headquarters of the Earth Federation Forces. At the time, the secret research division Grave was conducting field tests of the RX-80RR Red Rider, a prototype mobile suit created to collect data for use in the development of the RX-80PR Pale Rider. Grave's testing unit was surprised by a Zeon assault that killed most of the personnel, but the assault was defeated by the timely arrival of Aggressor Squadron. Lieutenant Kaori Sano and mobile suit engineer Elsa were among the few survivors of the testing unit, and joined Aggressor Squadron, allowing Corporal Chase Skullgard, a former Zeon mobile suit test pilot, to serve as the Red Rider's replacement pilot.
