Activation, Section II (始動編 第2話, Activation, Section II^?) is the second chapter of the Mobile Suit Gundam: The Origin manga.

Plot

Sgt. Ash, in fear of the RX-78-01 Prototype Gundam, does not respond to his comrades. The Prototype Gundam activates its shoulder cannon, but misses the target. Ash aims his Belt-Fed Machine Gun but the Prototype Gundam's Beam Rifle shoots off the head of his Zaku as soon as he started firing. The Zaku subsequently explodes, killing Ash. Engineers in the control center have noticed the explosion, wondering if unit 01 was scheduled for training, they contact its pilot, Lieutenant Werz to get the Prototype Gundam onto a transport immediately. Lt. Werz copies, notifying control that it is not a training exercise. He intends to eliminate the Zaku's infiltrating the colony. One of the remaining Zaku II units uses its Heat Hawk to cut down the barrel of the Prototype Gundam's shoulder cannon and jumps onto its back. The other Zaku II aims the machine gun, but the Prototype Gundam fires its Beam Rifle into the Zaku's abdomen, triggering an explosion and that kills all three combatants.

On the opposite end of Noa, civilians who are collecting supplies have taken notice of the explosion, including Amuro Ray, requesting Fraw Bow to get into his car instead of getting more supplies. Amuro believes that the colony can't withstand that big an explosion and drives back with what they've already collected.

The control center is in chas with the bulkhead caving in and Zakus still firing. With Lieutenant Werz not responding, they call LTJG Kemp to get to unit 02, which is on the carrier. An explosion kills LTJG Kemp on the way. Gene continues to fire to avenge Sgt. Ash, but Denim orders him to fall back as his actions go beyond "recon in force". Despite being told that they can't lose any more men, Gene continues to wreak havoc to seek glory. His Zaku punches into the control center and uses the wrist-mounted machine guns to kill all the engineers inside.

An engineer, complying with the orders to deploy 02, is notified of the change of plans to load it on to White Base instead. On the bridge of the White Base, Captain Cassius is informed that the attack has come from inside the colony. With the troops outside understaffed, Capt. Cassius orders those who aren't needed in the engine room to get outside. He also orders LTJG Noa to bring civilians on board for their safety, but only as much as the circumstances allow.

The RX-78-02 is being delivered from the testing area to the other end of Noa on a railed transport but the road breaks down. Nearby, Amuro and Fraw are unable to continue their journey. Fraw decides to go home to her mom as they're close enough to her home anyway and thanks Amuro. Amuro and Haro investigate the debris.

In accordance with Denim's orders, Slender has contacted Lt. Cdr. Char Aznable on the Falmer.
