The AWACS DINN is a Mobile Suit in the series Gundam SEED Destiny.
Combat Abilities
Since this DINN variation is designed specifically for search missions, it doesn't feature any fixed armaments. The suit can however carry an MMI-M7S 76mm heavy assault machine gun and an MMI-M100 190mm anti-aircraft shotgun, the same armament used on the standard AMF-101 DINN.
System Features
To fulfill its main purpose of search and recon missions, the AWACS DINN mounts a large radome on its back, similar to the MVF-M11C Murasame Reconnaissance Type. Additional sensor equipment is installed in the flight helmet of the AWACS DINN. Lastly the chest-mounted missile launchers installed on the original DINN have been replaced by searchlights.
History
During the first Bloody Valentine War, ZAFT introduces the DINN, a mobile suit used in aerial combat and missions on Earth. As with other mass produced mobile suits, ZAFT creates several variants of the DINN, which are specialized for different missions. One such variant is the AWACS DINN (Airborne Warning And Control System), which is used for recon missions inside Earth's atmosphere. When this DINN variation was introduced is unknown but since it was not seen in the first war, its quite possible that it was created after the war.
The AWACS DINN is used among others in Operations Angel Down, a ZAFT mission to destroy the Archangel. During this mission the DINNs are used to locate the ship.
