The AMGS-X18P Cavalier Aifrid is a support craft introduced in the animated film Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Freedom.
Technology & Combat Characteristics[]
A support craft used by Compass with their mobile suits, specializing in battlefield command & control, and electronic warfare. Unlike previous such vehicles like the Guul, the Cavalier Aifrid primarily carries its passenger mobile suit beneath it, though the mobile suit can also ride on top if required. It is also more heavily armed than previous sub-flight lifters, with a pair of plasma cannons and missile launchers as its main armament. The Cavalier can operate in all environments, able to travel in the air, space, and even underwater.

- A small, twin barreled turret mounted on the top part of the Cavalier.
- AQM/W-2033D Hyper Impulse Gun "Savitri"
- Two beam cannons mounted in front of the Cavalier, they swing forward when fired.
- AIM-902 AGMRAAM "Grand"
- The Cavalier Aifrid has two 6-tube misslies mounted on both side, covered by hatches. When fired, the hatches open to reveal the missile inside. It can be fired in conjunction with "Savitri" Hyper Impulse Guns.
Special Equipment & Features[]
- Electronic Warfare (EW) Suite
- The Cavalier Aifrid has a manned control station inside which operates the craft's various electronic warfare systems, including the ability to hack into an enemy's computer networks.
- Remote Control System
- The Cavalier is capable of using remote control to operate another Cavalier unit, or a mobile suit with appropriate equipment like the ZGMF-X191M2 ∞ Justice Gundam Type II, even over long distances through N-Jammer interference.
- The Cavalier Aifrid is equipped with the Mirage Colloid Stealth System that can render both itself and its passenger mobile suit invisible, making it capable of infiltrating behind heavily defended enemy territory.
- M2X32E Volantes
- A subflight lifter used by the ZGMF-MM07 Z'Gok, and the ZGMF-X191M2 ∞ Justice Gundam Type II. The Cavalier Aifrid is able to carry the Volantes on top of its engines for improved maneuverability and firepower.
History[]
In C.E 7.5. Two Cavalier Aifrid units, Unit-01 and Unit-02, were used by both the Orb Union and Compass. Unit-01 was used by Athrun Zala as his main operating base on Earth, equipped on his ZGMF-MM07 Z'Gok. Unit-01 would evacuate Kira Yamato and the surviving Archangel crews from Eldore before the area was destroyed by a nuclear missile. Unit-01 would then be used to infiltrate the Artemis space fortress to rescue Lacus Clyne from the Kingdom of Foundation; after sneaking past Artemis' Lightwave Barrier by using its Mirage Colloid Stealth System, Unit-01, remote piloted by Cagalli Yula Athha from Earth[1], would deploy its onboard commando team and wreak havoc inside Artemis' harbor using its weapons, while Meyrin Hawke used the Cavalier's EW system to hack into the space fortress' defenses to support the rescue team. Unit-01 would later participate in the assault against Requiem alongside the ZGMF-X191M2 ∞ Justice Gundam Type II, ZGMF/A-42S2 Destiny Gundam Spec II and the ZGMF-56E2/α Force Impulse Gundam Spec II.[2]
Cavalier Unit-02 is used by Orb in the possession of Cagalli. It is equipped by the MBF-02 Strike Rouge, and was deployed after Orb's declaration of war against Foundation. Unit-02 and the Strike Rouge would play a crucial role of remote controlling the ∞ Justice Type II from Earth, to give Athrun the upper hand against Shura Serpentine's NOG-M1A1 Shi-ve.A in combat.[2]

- According to director Mitsuo Fukuda, the Cavalier Aifrid was directly inspired by the Cavalier units from the 1987 anime Metal Armor Dragonar, which he had also previously worked on.
